How much you can add to Chime depends on the method. Cash deposits are capped at $3,000 per transaction and per day, five deposits per day, and $10,000 per month. Chime says it has no limit on incoming direct deposits, while mobile-check and transfer limits can vary by member.
Chime limits depend on what you mean by “Chime card”
People may use “Chime card” to mean the Chime debit card linked to Checking or the Chime Card account. For the Chime Card, money added goes to Checking first and is then automatically moved to the Secured Deposit Account (SDA). A cash deposit made using the Chime Card first goes to the Chime Card Account and is then transferred to the SDA. The app displays the card’s Available balance. Chime explains how the Chime Card account works.

How much can you add by each method?
| Funding method | Chime limit or policy | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Cash at participating retailers | Up to $3,000 per transaction, $3,000 per day, five deposits per day, and $10,000 per month. Chime’s limits apply across accounts and deposit methods as described on its cash-deposit page. | A retailer may impose a lower transaction limit. Walgreens and Duane Reade are fee-free; other participating retailers typically charge $3–$5 per transaction. Confirm the fee and location details before depositing. See Chime’s cash-deposit rules. |
| Direct deposit | Chime says there is no limit on the amount it can receive. | Large deposits may be reviewed. When funds become available depends on when the payer submits its payment file. See Chime’s direct-deposit details. |
| Mobile check deposit | No universal amount is stated on Chime’s cited help page. | Eligibility and limits are personalized. Check the app under Profile > Account details > View limits, and confirm that mobile check deposit is available to you. See Chime’s mobile-check information. |
| Transfers | Personal limits depend on account history and risk factors. | Chime says transfers initiated at an external bank are not limited by Chime, but the sending bank may set its own limit. Check Profile > Account details > View limits for your personalized limits. See Chime’s adding-money limits. |
Cash deposits: the fixed limits and practical restrictions
Chime’s cash-deposit caps are $3,000 per transaction, $3,000 per day, five deposits per day, and $10,000 per month. The $10,000 figure applies to cash deposits under Chime’s stated policy; it is not a monthly cap on every kind of money entering your account.
- Cash can be deposited at participating retail locations, not at ATMs.
- Individual retailers may accept less than Chime’s per-transaction maximum.
- Walgreens and Duane Reade deposits are fee-free; other partners typically charge $3–$5 per transaction. Fees and acceptance can vary, so check the location or app first.
- Chime says daily cash-deposit limits reset at midnight Mountain Standard Time.
Direct deposits are treated differently
Chime states there is no limit on how much it can receive through direct deposit, though large deposits may be subject to review. Availability also depends on when the payer submits its payment file. A direct deposit is a payer-originated payment; bank transfers, peer-to-peer transfers, cash deposits, and mobile checks do not count as qualifying direct deposits for Chime benefits. Read Chime’s definition of a qualifying direct deposit.

Choose a funding method based on amount, availability, and cost
- Adding cash: Use the cash caps to plan the amount and number of deposits, and confirm the retailer’s own limit and fee.
- Receiving pay or another payer’s deposit: Chime states there is no incoming direct-deposit amount limit, but review and processing timing can affect availability.
- Depositing a check or moving money: Check the app’s personalized limits before relying on a particular amount; an external bank may also restrict a transfer it sends.
