There is no vehicle-independent list of tires proven to cost less than Michelin and ride just as smoothly. The right alternative depends on your tire size, required ratings, climate, and a current price comparison in that exact size. Kelly Edge Touring Plus is one candidate to investigate: Kelly describes it as a commuter tire with a smooth ride, but that is a manufacturer claim—not an independent finding that it matches a Michelin model.
Start with the tire your vehicle requires
Before comparing brands, find the tire-size and load information on the vehicle’s door-jamb placard. Michelin’s buying guide, updated July 15, 2026, advises matching the required size and ratings, including at least the speed rating specified by the vehicle manufacturer. A lower price is not a good trade if the tire does not meet those requirements.
Because no vehicle, model year, tire size, Michelin model, or location is specified here, a specific cheaper replacement cannot be confirmed. Check fitment and availability for your vehicle before treating any candidate as an option.

One budget-oriented candidate: Kelly Edge Touring Plus
Kelly, a Goodyear brand, positions the Edge Touring Plus as an all-season tire for commuters. Its product page describes a “Symmetrical tread pattern: Confident handling and smooth ride,” lists a 65,000-mile warranty, and displayed a price range of $99–$208 when accessed October 7, 2026. These are Kelly’s product-page claims and figures; the range is not a quote for your tire size or a same-size comparison with Michelin.
#1 Best Overall
- 50,000 mile warranty
- All-Season Touring Tire
- Ideal for consumers looking for plenty of miles, good traction and fuel economy
- M+S Rated (mud and snow)
- Manufactured by Cooper Tire & Rubber Company
The smooth-ride description makes the Edge Touring Plus worth checking if you want a commuter tire, but it does not establish that the tire is as quiet or comfortable as a particular Michelin. Confirm the exact size, ratings, local availability, current price, and warranty terms before deciding.
Match the tire to your climate and comfort priorities
Choose the right seasonal category
Michelin’s guidance is to account for the climate and the worst conditions you regularly encounter. All-season tires may suit milder winters; recurring severe snow and ice may call for dedicated winter tires. These categories are not interchangeable in every climate, so do not choose an all-season alternative solely because it costs less.

Look for evidence of the ride you want
Michelin advises shoppers who prioritize quiet comfort to look for tires that specifically mention comfort, a smooth ride, or low road noise. It also characterizes touring tires with lower speed ratings as generally more comfort-oriented than speed-oriented, while cautioning that buyers should not go below the vehicle maker’s specified speed rating. Treat those descriptions as screening criteria, not proof of equal ride quality. For a meaningful comfort comparison, look for independent tests of the candidate and Michelin tire in the same size and vehicle.

Compare current prices for the exact size your vehicle requires, using either installed totals or clearly itemized prices. Account for warranty terms and how you expect to use the tires. Kelly’s displayed $99–$208 range does not show what a matching Michelin costs, so it cannot establish savings by itself.

Treadwear figures also depend on the tire size and vehicle tested. Michelin publishes the following estimates from its own tests; the company says the estimates are based on the most-worn groove of a rotated set. They are manufacturer-reported results, not independent tests or universal predictions of how long these tires will last.
| Michelin-reported test application | Michelin CrossClimate2 | Other tires in Michelin’s comparison |
|---|---|---|
| 225/60R18 tires on 2018 Honda CR-Vs | 77,590 miles | Bridgestone WeatherPeak: 41,127 miles; Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive: 58,729 miles |
| 215/55R17 tires on a 2016 Toyota Camry | 64,236 miles | Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack: 49,095 miles; Continental PureContact LS: 58,195 miles |
| 235/55R18 tires on 2020 Chevrolet Equinoxes | 73,940 miles | Continental CrossContact LX25: 62,437 miles; Goodyear WeatherReady: 58,486 miles; Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season: 46,670 miles |
These comparisons show why tire model, size, and vehicle matter; they do not prove that alternatives as a group match Michelin for comfort, longevity, or total value. Use same-application evidence where available, and keep the test source in mind when weighing a mileage estimate.

A practical way to decide
- Read the vehicle door-jamb placard and note the required size, load index, and speed rating.
- Decide whether your regular conditions call for an all-season tire or a dedicated winter tire.
- Shortlist tires whose stated ride characteristics fit your priorities, such as comfort or low road noise, while meeting the required ratings.
- Compare current prices for the exact size, including installation if comparing installed totals, and review the warranty terms.
- Look for independent comfort and treadwear testing in the same size and vehicle before concluding that a cheaper tire rides or lasts as well as a Michelin.
