A cheap wireless 4K HDMI kit can replace a long HDMI cable run between a source and a TV or projector. Whether it also handles Dolby Atmos, gaming and picture quality well is a model-specific question. The headline’s criticisms cannot be confirmed for the product it describes, because the title does not name that product.
The closest match in available coverage is the Nyrius Phoenix Home, reviewed by Latest in Tech in 2026. Nothing in the evidence confirms it is the product the headline means, so the figures below belong to the products named beside them. No current price or regional availability was confirmed for any of them.
What a wireless HDMI kit actually does
A kit has two units. The transmitter connects to the source, such as a game console, Apple TV 4K, Blu-ray player or AV receiver. The receiver connects to the display. Marmitek describes the same layout for connecting a second TV or projector elsewhere in the home. The benefit is removing the cable run. It does not improve the picture, and the signal still has to survive the wireless link intact.
The published specifications side by side
The three sources below differ in type. The Nyrius figures come from a third-party review, the Marmitek figures from the manufacturer’s own product page, and the retailer figures from an undated bol.com listing for Marmitek. Where a cell says “not stated”, that source did not give the value.

Review-reported capabilities are not measured results. Manufacturer figures are the company’s own claims. Retailer listings are the least reliable of the three, so use them only as leads to check.
Dolby Atmos: what passthrough does and does not mean
Passthrough means the kit forwards the audio bitstream without decoding it. Atmos therefore reaches the display only if three things line up: the source outputs an Atmos bitstream, the kit carries it, and the TV or AV receiver decodes it. Both the Nyrius review and the Marmitek page list Atmos passthrough. Neither statement shows that a kit will deliver a working Atmos signal in your chain, and neither speaks for the unnamed product in the headline.

Gaming: why “4K” tells you little about latency
A resolution number says nothing about input lag. The available signals are all incomplete. The Nyrius review explicitly leaves gaming latency open. Marmitek describes its latency as low but gives no figure. The retailer listing gives 16–48 ms depending on environment, and that figure has not been confirmed by the manufacturer.

TechRadar’s 2023 commentary said wireless 4K HDMI was then limited to 60Hz. That describes the market at the time, not the specification of any current kit. A reader on Reddit asked, “How is the latency and connection stability for movies?” The question is fair, and the available evidence does not answer it for any of these products.

Picture quality: a 4K60 label is not a picture test
A 4K60 specification describes the signal format. It does not describe how the image looks after compression and processing. The only compression claim found is the retailer’s H.265 mention, which is undated and unconfirmed by the manufacturer. No independent measured picture test is available for these models, and no HDR format is stated for any of them. The headline’s picture-quality criticism therefore can be neither verified nor dismissed on current evidence.

Marmitek’s figure of up to 50 m applies to line of sight. Walls, floors and metal objects are not quantified in the sources. Plan for a shorter practical range than the headline figure, and test the link in the actual room before mounting the receiver.

How to check a specific kit before you buy
- Get the exact model number from the box or the manufacturer’s site, and confirm it matches the listing you are considering.
- Take the maximum resolution and refresh rate from the manufacturer’s specification, not a retailer summary. If the two disagree, as with the Marmitek listing above, treat the lower or unconfirmed claim as unverified until the manual settles it.
- Check HDR formats separately. Resolution and refresh rate do not tell you which HDR formats pass through.
- For each audio format you use, set the source’s audio output to bitstream or passthrough and confirm the receiving device shows the expected format.
- For gaming, test with your own console in your display’s game mode and compare the feel against a wired connection. Published latency figures are not comparable across products.
- Test the link at your real distance with the walls and furniture you have. Treat the line-of-sight range as a best case.
- If you need the source’s remote to control the display side, confirm that loopthrough and IR return are supported on that exact model.
- Check the current price and regional availability on the manufacturer’s or a reputable retailer’s listing before buying.
