The cheapest internet plan in San Diego depends on your exact address and whether you qualify for a reduced-cost program. As of October 2026, Spectrum advertises residential service from $30 per month, while the City of San Diego’s April 2026 plan lists qualifying-household options starting at $9.95 per month. Those prices describe different offers and eligibility rules—not a single citywide price. Check your address and confirm the terms before signing up.
What cheap internet costs in San Diego
These are published price points, not guaranteed quotes for every household. Provider coverage, qualifications, and current offer terms determine what you can actually order.
| Plan or program | Published price and speed | Who may qualify or key terms |
|---|---|---|
| Cox Connect2Compete | $9.95 per month; up to 100/100 Mbps | The City of San Diego’s April 2026 plan lists it for eligible families with K–12 students participating in a qualifying assistance program. Confirm current program terms and availability with Cox. City of San Diego, April 2026 plan |
| Spectrum Internet Assist | $25 per month; up to 50 Mbps download | Listed by the City of San Diego for qualifying households. Check current eligibility, speed, and price with Spectrum. City of San Diego, April 2026 plan |
| Cox ConnectAssist | $30 per month; up to 100/100 Mbps | Listed by the City of San Diego for qualifying households. Confirm whether the program name, price, and terms remain current with Cox. City of San Diego, April 2026 plan |
| Spectrum residential internet | 100 Mbps from $30 per month; up to 1 Gig for $60 per month for one year | Spectrum’s San Diego offer page describes new-customer conditions and eligibility terms. It says a modem is included and there are no data caps or contracts. Verify the offer at your address. Spectrum San Diego offers |
| AT&T Access | Price and speed depend on address and service type | AT&T says qualification may be based on household income or participation in a qualifying program. Check eligibility and availability with AT&T. AT&T Access |
| AT&T Internet Air | As low as $40 per month at eligible addresses | This is an eligibility-based advertised price, not a citywide rate. AT&T says availability, price, and speed depend on address; its published price requires AutoPay and paperless billing. Cellular service can slow temporarily during network congestion. City-listed assistance prices are dated April 2026. Provider offers and program requirements can change, so use the table to identify options to check, not as a guaranteed checkout price.

How to find plans available at your address
- Enter your full service address on each provider’s availability page. Start with Spectrum’s San Diego page and AT&T’s internet availability checker. Availability and speeds can vary by address; an offer advertised for San Diego does not establish that it serves your home.
- If you may qualify for a discounted plan, check the provider’s eligibility requirements before comparing its standard residential offers. Ask whether your address is served and what documents or program participation are required.
- Request the full price details: the monthly rate during any introductory period, the rate afterward, required AutoPay or paperless-billing discounts, equipment costs, installation charges, and any contract terms.
- Compare the available connection types and speeds for your needs, including upload speed. A low download-price headline alone may not tell you whether a plan fits video calls, remote work, gaming, or several people online at once.
How to compare the real cost and fit
For each available plan, calculate what you will pay over the first year and what the regular monthly rate will be afterward. Include any required billing discounts and one-time charges. Spectrum’s advertised $60-per-month 1 Gig rate is specified for one year, so it should not be treated as a permanent price.

- Speed: Compare both download and upload rates when the provider states them. Upload capacity and consistency matter for video meetings, sending large files, and multiple simultaneous calls.
- Technology: Check whether the service is cable, fiber, or cellular home internet. Cellular Internet Air is subject to possible temporary slowing during congestion; AT&T’s fiber pages describe equipment as included and no data caps. AT&T Fiber
- Equipment and data: Confirm modem, gateway, or Wi-Fi charges and any data limits or network policies. Spectrum’s San Diego page says its modem is included and there are no data caps; do not assume other plans have the same terms.
- Commitments and fees: Check contracts, installation, and activation costs rather than relying only on the monthly headline price.
- Eligibility: Treat assistance plans as separate offers. A program’s listed price does not mean every household can enroll or that it is offered at every address.
Check California LifeLine if cost is the main barrier
California’s LifeLine Home Broadband Pilot may help eligible consumers pay for a qualifying internet plan. The California Public Utilities Commission says eligible consumers may apply the California LifeLine subsidy to any internet plan that meets minimum service standards, including standalone or bundled broadband plans. The CPUC describes support of up to $20 toward broadband, up to $30 for broadband bundled with voice from the same provider, and up to $39 toward a new connection charge once per year per household. Eligibility and minimum service standards apply, with exceptions described for certain low-cost plans and places where standard service is infeasible. See the CPUC California LifeLine Home Broadband Pilot Program for current details.
