Signing out of a third-party app ends your session in that app; it does not necessarily disconnect the app from ChatGPT or stop its authorized use of eligible ChatGPT plan usage. To stop future use, review Settings > Security and login > Login connections > Sign in with ChatGPT and disconnect the app if that control is available. Check Settings > Usage to see usage by app and manage weekly limits.
Why usage can continue after you sign out
There are two separate things involved: your signed-in session in the other app, and that app’s connection to ChatGPT. Signing out ends the first. It does not, by itself, revoke the second. OpenAI’s guidance on using a ChatGPT plan in other apps and sites explains that an app can continue authorized use of eligible plan usage after you sign out there.

Signing in with ChatGPT and allowing an app to use your plan are separate choices. Sign in with ChatGPT shares basic identity information—your name, email address, and profile picture if present. Identity sign-in alone does not share your ChatGPT conversations or memories, or an OpenAI API key. An eligible participating app may separately ask you to authorize use of your ChatGPT plan. Check which app is using usage
- In ChatGPT, open Settings > Usage.
- Review usage by app, the relevant period, and the app’s weekly limit.
- If the app has stopped working, check whether it reached its own limit even though overall plan usage remains.
A per-app weekly limit caps the share of overall weekly usage that app can consume. It does not add a separate pool or reserve usage for you. Repeated sign-ins or retries do not restore usage.

Disconnect the ChatGPT connection if the option appears
- In ChatGPT, open Settings > Security and login > Login connections > Sign in with ChatGPT.
- Select the app and choose Disconnect, if available.
- Confirm the disconnection.
Controls can vary. Some sign-in-only connections may not show a management or disconnect option. If you do not see one, signing out in the external app ends its current session there; contact the app provider about its own unlinking, account deletion, or data-retention controls.
Keep identity sign-in but stop plan usage
If you want to keep signing in with ChatGPT, check whether the app or sign-in flow offers a separate option to stop using your ChatGPT plan. With that choice off, requests through the connection do not count toward your ChatGPT plan. The app may offer another payment method under its own terms and pricing.

What to do about unexpected usage
Compare the app, time period, and limit shown in Settings > Usage. OpenAI says usage settings may not show action-level details. Ask the app provider what activity drove the usage, then contact OpenAI Support if the ChatGPT usage record appears wrong. Disconnecting an app does not reverse usage already recorded.
Check billing and data separately
A third-party app may charge separately for its subscription, infrastructure, services, or premium features. Check that provider’s billing settings as well as your ChatGPT subscription billing. OpenAI subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store, Google Play, and chatgpt.com are managed on their respective platforms; subscribing on multiple platforms can lead to multiple charges. Disconnecting and deleting data are separate actions. Disconnecting does not guarantee deletion of information the app already received. Use the app provider’s data controls or contact its support about deletion and retention.
