Yes—ChatGPT can take meeting notes on Mac. Its Meetings plugin captures Mac audio and turns meeting context into a summary and suggested actions that you can review, edit, and start in ChatGPT. Granola is a bot-free meeting notepad built around notes and meeting history, and its connector can bring those notes into ChatGPT. The choice is less about a proven accuracy winner—official product descriptions establish no such comparison—and more about where you want notes to live and what you want to do with them next.

What ChatGPT Meetings does on a Mac
OpenAI documents Meetings as a beta plugin in the macOS ChatGPT desktop app for Pro and Business plans. To use it, install the plugin, grant microphone and system-audio permissions, then start taking notes manually. A calendar connection is not required for manual use. Connecting Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar can support reminders and upcoming meetings.
After capture, Meetings uses the transcript, notes you wrote, and relevant context from authorized connected apps to prepare a summary and suggested action items on a meeting page. You decide what happens next: review or edit suggestions, then start the items you want ChatGPT to work on. Notes pages are private by default. Sharing a page does not share its transcript. Meetings needs access to both the Mac microphone and system audio for a complete capture. OpenAI says audio streams to its service to generate notes and is deleted from the Mac and OpenAI servers after notes are ready. If processing is incomplete or the computer is offline, audio may remain temporarily on the Mac while awaiting upload or processing.

The app reminds you to inform participants and obtain consent, but it does not notify them or obtain consent on your behalf. Tell participants and follow the rules that apply where you are before capturing a meeting. Capture stops automatically when the laptop lid closes, after extended silence, or at four hours; you can also stop manually.
What Granola adds to meeting notes
Granola describes itself as a bot-free AI notepad. It says it uses computer audio and works with Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Huddles, in-person conversations, and more. Its product page also describes calendar syncing, pre-meeting briefs, meeting notes, action items, and follow-ups. Granola says notes are private by default and can be shared by the user. Granola’s distinguishing advantage in this comparison is its meeting-history workflow: notes can be searched and connected to other tools, including ChatGPT where the connector is available. Can you use Granola with ChatGPT?
Yes, if the connection is available in your ChatGPT account and workspace. Granola documents this access on its Granola + ChatGPT page. OpenAI also lists a Granola plugin for meeting-history search and context use in ChatGPT Work or Codex, but notes that availability depends on the plugin, plan, and workspace settings. Check the OpenAI Granola plugin listing and your own account rather than assuming the integration is enabled for everyone.

OpenAI’s Meetings documentation describes eligibility by ChatGPT plan but does not state a separate Meetings price. These figures therefore do not establish a like-for-like cost comparison or an additional fee for Meetings. Granola’s MCP access limits are described separately from its pricing page.

Meetings and Record are separate features with separate availability and data-handling descriptions. OpenAI’s Record documentation describes Record as available only in the macOS desktop app, with plan availability across Plus, Enterprise, Edu, Business, and Pro workspaces. Record sessions are capped at four hours. Its audio is used for transcription and then deleted, while generated transcripts and canvases follow conversation retention settings. For consumer accounts, model training on transcripts and canvases depends on the “Improve the model for everyone” setting; Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspace data are excluded from training by default. Those Record-specific details should not be assumed to describe Meetings.

Which workflow should you choose?
Choose ChatGPT Meetings if
- You want a Mac meeting workflow that creates notes inside ChatGPT.
- You want to review and edit proposed follow-up, then start selected actions in ChatGPT.
- Your account is eligible for the beta and you are comfortable granting microphone and system-audio access.
Choose Granola if
- You want a dedicated meeting-history notepad with search and integrations.
- You want the vendor-described bot-free capture workflow across calls and in-person conversations.
- You want to connect notes to ChatGPT where the MCP connector is enabled, with the amount of history and transcript access determined by your plan.
Use both if
You prefer Granola for capture and organizing meeting history but want ChatGPT to answer questions about those notes or retrieve their decisions and action items. The connector is subject to plan and workspace access, so verify what your account can see before relying on it.
What the published information does—and does not—establish
Product documentation describes workflows and features; it does not establish that either service transcribes more accurately, produces better action items, or is more reliable in a particular room or call setup. Granola’s updates page records 2026 product changes, including a September 2, 2026 statement that it supports 32 languages. That is a dated vendor feature claim, not a comparative quality result. If accuracy matters for your meetings, compare both with the same kinds of calls you actually attend and check names, decisions, and assigned owners against the original conversation. Treat generated action items as drafts to verify, not as an authoritative record.
