ChatGPT Free and Go users are scheduled to start getting GPT-6 Luna in Chat from October 8, 2026, one day after OpenAI began the GPT-6 rollout for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise. Free and Go get Luna; the paid and workspace plans get GPT-6 Sol. The rollout is gradual, so October 8 is the announced start date, not a guarantee that every Free or Go account can already use it.
What OpenAI announced
On October 7, 2026, OpenAI announced GPT-6 with Intelligent UI for ChatGPT. The rollout began that day in the Chat tab for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, and was scheduled to expand to Free and Go starting October 8. OpenAI’s announcement is the primary source for the dates and plan mapping, and its release notes repeat them. Because the October 8 start has now passed as of this writing, the practical question is whether your account is in the expansion yet. The published material does not give an account-by-account order or a completion time, so there is no way to confirm your status from the announcement alone.

OpenAI’s mapping assigns a different GPT-6 model to each tier. Both models are described as tuned for everyday conversation.

In short, a Free or Go account should expect Luna, and a Plus, Pro, Business, or Enterprise account should expect Sol, once the rollout reaches it.
What Intelligent UI changes
Intelligent UI lets ChatGPT answer with more than plain text. According to OpenAI’s release notes, it can combine text, visuals, and interactive elements to fit the question. Examples include side-by-side comparisons, diagrams, calculators, bill splitters, and games. ChatGPT chooses a format automatically and can still return a simple text answer when that fits better.

The release notes also say GPT-6 can start answering while it keeps thinking or using tools, then add findings to the response without another prompt. The notes state that Intelligent UI is available from Instant through Extra High reasoning levels. The Pro reasoning option is the exception, since it continues to use GPT-6 Astra without Intelligent UI.
Scope: Chat only, not Work or Codex
This rollout applies to Chat. OpenAI says the models powering Work and Codex are not changing as part of it. OpenAI’s earlier September announcement covered GPT-6 Sol and Luna in Work and Codex under a separate availability context, so do not read the October Chat rollout as having already reached those products.

Enterprise and workspace admins
For Enterprise, access is not purely an individual setting. Availability depends on workspace admin settings, so an employee on an Enterprise workspace may need an administrator to have the feature enabled before it appears. The announcement does not describe the admin control panel steps, so check with your workspace administrator rather than assuming the feature is on.
If you do not see the model yet
- Confirm which plan the account is on. Free and Go accounts were scheduled one day later than Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, and Free and Go accounts should expect Luna rather than Sol.
- Allow time. The rollout is gradual, and the sources give no completion time.
- For Enterprise, ask a workspace administrator whether the feature is enabled for your workspace.
- Do not expect the change in Work or Codex, because the announcement says those models are not changing in this rollout.
The official material does not describe a troubleshooting procedure for an account that still lacks the model after the announced start date.

Usage figures and what they measure
OpenAI’s announcement says GPT-6 brings its latest advances to “more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT every week.” That is OpenAI’s own figure, stated in the announcement, and it has not been independently audited. The announcement does not give a usage limit for Luna or any completion statistic for the Free and Go rollout, so no limit should be assumed.
Safety evaluation context
OpenAI’s October system card, published in its Deployment Safety Hub, separates the October GPT-6 Sol and Luna models in Chat from the September versions still in Work and Codex. It describes its safety evaluations as tests that do not measure failure rates in typical use. It also notes that the evaluation methodology sometimes assesses safety at the lowest reasoning settings and capabilities at maximum reasoning effort. Those results describe specific test conditions and should not be read as a promise about everyday accuracy or behavior. Access requirements
GPT-6 Luna in Chat is a software feature delivered through your ChatGPT account. The official sources do not list any hardware, accessory, or additional purchase needed to use it.
