Yes. ChatGPT now offers a Try on button on clothing and accessory listings: upload or take a selfie, and ChatGPT Images generates a preview of you wearing the item. The reference photo is saved for future try-ons until you change or delete it in Settings → Personalization → Reference photos. Treat the result as a visual styling aid, not proof that the jacket will fit.
How to try on a jacket in ChatGPT
- Open a clothing or accessory product listing in ChatGPT and select Try on, if the button appears.
- Take a selfie or upload one when prompted. A clear, well-framed photo can make it easier to judge the overall silhouette; OpenAI does not specify a required pose or camera setup.
- Review the generated image as a preview of the item’s color, silhouette, and general styling on you.
- To manage the reference image used for future try-ons, go to Settings → Personalization → Reference photos. From there, change or delete it.
- Save products you may want to revisit using Favorites or a folder in ChatGPT Library. Product Favorites and folders are available in ChatGPT on mobile and the web, according to OpenAI’s October 1, 2026 release note (ChatGPT release notes).
What the try-on image can—and cannot—tell you
The preview is useful mainly for visual questions: whether you like the jacket’s apparent color, silhouette, or styling on you. It is not a measurement-based fitting tool. OpenAI does not say that Try on predicts your size or physical fit, and a generated image cannot establish sleeve length, how the fabric feels, whether the item is in stock, its current price, or what return rights apply.
Use the retailer’s product page for the purchase details. Compare the preview with the listing across these four questions:

Does ChatGPT keep the selfie?
Yes. OpenAI says the reference photo is saved for future try-ons. To replace or remove it, open Settings → Personalization → Reference photos and use the controls there. The release note does not specify a retention period beyond saying the photo is saved for future try-ons, so check that setting if you want to manage the image.

Why a generated try-on may look more natural
The feature uses ChatGPT Images. OpenAI announced ChatGPT Images 2.5 on September 8, 2026, describing more natural lighting and richer textures, improved preservation of subjects in reference photos, more reliable instruction-following across multiple editing turns, and generation latency reduced by up to 50% compared with Images 2.0. OpenAI says Images 2.5 is available to ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex users across desktop, mobile, and web (ChatGPT Images 2.5 announcement).
OpenAI also reported that “Every week, people create more than 3 billion images across ChatGPT Images and the GPT‑Image models in the API.” That is a combined usage figure for ChatGPT Images and GPT-Image API models, not a count of virtual try-ons.
