Why was the Bahrain Grand Prix held in Malaysia?
The event was named the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, but its 2026 host venue was Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Formula 1 and the FIA announced the arrangement on July 26, 2026, placing the event on October 2–4 between the Azerbaijan and Singapore rounds. Their announcement described the arrangement as subject to final agreements and official sign-off, including approval by the World Motor Sport Council; it should not be taken as a permanent venue change. When and where did FP2 take place?
Formula 1’s schedule lists FP2 for Friday, October 2, from 16:00 to 17:00 local time at Sepang International Circuit. View the event schedule.
Formula 1 lists Sepang’s circuit length as 5.543 km and its lap record as 1:34.080, set by Sebastian Vettel for Ferrari in 2017. The lap record is a separate benchmark, not a comparison of the drivers’ FP2 performance. See Formula 1’s event preview.

What do the practice results tell us?
They establish who recorded the quickest lap in this session and the measured gaps among the leading drivers. Formula 1 reported that the opening practice hour had taken place in dry, sunny conditions, while dark clouds lingered over the track before FP2. That report does not establish that rain affected the session or its result.
A fastest practice lap is not, by itself, evidence of long-run pace, tyre strategy, or likely Grand Prix performance. The classification answers who was quickest over a lap in FP2; it does not predict the race outcome.
