Channel 1 announced a plan for a personalized, multilingual news network featuring AI-generated presenters—but the available public information does not confirm that its proposed consumer news service launched. The company described human editorial review and labels for AI-generated or altered visuals as safeguards; those were stated intentions, not independently verified results.
What Channel 1 announced
On July 26, 2023, Channel 1, Inc. announced a planned personalized global news network combining real and generated imagery, video and presenters. The company said AI would help deliver news in multiple languages and described its virtual anchors as generated identities with personalities, rather than simply talking avatars. Founder Adam Mosam called the approach “the biggest shift in the media landscape since the transition from broadcast to VOD”—a promotional characterization, not an established industry finding. Channel 1’s announcement
The rollout described at the time was staged: first a weekly show distributed on the web, social media and streaming networks, then a free personalized app for mobile devices and connected televisions. Contemporary reporting also described a planned free, ad-supported streaming television channel ahead of the app. These were plans announced for the future, not proof that either product became available. Company announcement; The Verge’s coverage
How the proposed news process was supposed to work
Channel 1 said it would assemble journalism from trusted sources rather than have a computer invent stories about events that did not happen. In its introduction, the company framed the question as “What is AI? Native news?” and answered the concern “It’s not fake news.” That is the company’s description of its approach, not an independent guarantee of accuracy. Channel 1’s introduction

The company said human editors and producers would check stories for accuracy and clarity. It also said visuals would be clearly labeled when AI added context or altered a depiction of an actual event. The Register reported plans to cite sources on screen and label AI-generated imagery; The Boston Globe reported that the company planned to license video from traditional news organizations. These are reported safeguards and intentions, not evidence of how a live service operated or whether those measures prevented mistakes. The Register; The Boston Globe
What Channel 1 says it does now
The current Channel 1 website describes the company as “Intelligent Infrastructure for the Future of Media.” It presents Prism as a video-production platform, Globodex as an information-structuring or intelligence layer, and Project Exo as a future personalized video stream. This is a shift in public-facing emphasis from the 2023 consumer news-network proposal toward media tools and infrastructure.

Why AI news anchors raised trust and labor questions
Trust and accountability
A synthetic presenter may change how viewers perceive a story even when the underlying reporting comes from other sources. The practical questions are whether viewers can see the original sources, whether synthetic or altered visuals are clearly identified, who reviews the script, and who is responsible for corrections. Channel 1 described intended answers to some of these questions, but the cited materials do not document an operating service that can be assessed against them.

The Boston Globe quoted SAG-AFTRA national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland: “There’s a reason why trusted newscasters remain on the air for decades — because the public responds to them, connects with them as human beings, and relies on what they say.” That concern reflects the value audiences place on human broadcasters; it does not, by itself, establish how viewers would respond to Channel 1. The Boston Globe
Personalization and political framing
Axios described the proposal as digital anchors customizable to viewers’ political slant. That raises a separate editorial issue: personalization could make news feel more relevant, but it could also narrow the range of stories or perspectives a viewer encounters. The description concerns the proposal; it does not establish how any deployed Channel 1 system behaved. Axios
What to examine in any AI-assisted news product
- What AI creates: Is it generating the presenter, writing the script, producing the underlying reporting, translating material, or assisting with production?
- Visible sourcing and disclosure: Can viewers find the sources, and are generated or altered visuals identified clearly?
- Editorial responsibility: Who reviews stories, handles errors and issues corrections?
- Personalization limits: Does tailoring affect language and relevance, or also political framing and the breadth of stories shown?
These are useful criteria for evaluating a future or comparable service. The available material does not provide enough evidence to rate Channel 1’s actual performance on them.
