To change your Samsung hotspot password, open Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering > Mobile Hotspot, then tap Password and save your new password. Depending on your Galaxy model and software, the control may instead be under Information or Configure.
Change the password in Mobile Hotspot settings
- Open Settings on your Galaxy phone.
- Tap Connections, then Mobile Hotspot and Tethering.
- Tap Mobile Hotspot to open its settings. On some versions, tap the row or name rather than the on/off switch.
- Tap Password. If you do not see it, check Information or Configure.
- Enter the new password and save or confirm the change.
Samsung says users can view and change the hotspot password, but menu options can differ by model and software version. See Samsung’s US Mobile Hotspot instructions and its device-manual guidance.
Connect another device with the new password
Turn on Mobile Hotspot on the Galaxy phone. On the device you want to connect, open its Wi-Fi settings, select the Galaxy hotspot’s network name, and enter the password you just saved. If the other device had connected before, update its saved network password or forget the network and join again.

Samsung describes setting a password as a way to “Prevent strangers from using your Mobile Hotspot by setting a password on your network.” Samsung Singapore’s hotspot guide explains the security setting.

If the device will not connect
Check the password and security mode
First make sure the connecting device is using the new password. If the password is correct but an older device still cannot join, check the hotspot’s security setting. Samsung recommends trying WPA2 or WPA2/WPA3 where available if the client does not support WPA3. The available choices depend on the phone. See Samsung’s US guidance and Samsung UK’s configuration guidance.
If the hotspot does not appear
Check that the hotspot is on, then look in its settings for the band and Hidden network options. Disabling Hidden network can make the hotspot discoverable. Samsung’s guidance suggests 2.4 GHz when broader discovery or compatibility is the priority; the setting names and available bands vary by device. Samsung Singapore and Samsung UK describe these options.

Optional: use a one-time password if your phone offers it
Some Galaxy phones include a one-time-password option for Mobile Hotspot. Samsung India says that enabling it displays a unique temporary password, and turning the hotspot off and on generates another. This feature is not available on every model or software version; the Samsung India page was updated August 31, 2026. See Samsung India’s instructions.
Keep data use, battery, and carrier support in mind
A mobile hotspot uses your phone’s mobile data and battery. Whether tethering is available, and any terms or limits that apply, can depend on your carrier plan and location. Samsung covers these considerations in its Mobile Hotspot guidance.
