Chandigarh University’s sixth Global Education Summit (GES 2026) was scheduled for October 5–9 at its Gharuan campus. In an October 6 announcement, the university reported that more than 90 academic leaders from 69 universities across 30 nations were taking part. Those figures come from the event organizer; the announcement was issued while the summit was still underway.
What the summit is about
The announced theme was “Collaborations in AI-based Research and Innovations for Creating a Sustainable Global Village.” Its focus brings artificial intelligence into discussion of research, higher education and sustainable development—not just the use of AI tools in classrooms.

- How higher education can develop socially sensitive professional leaders.

The release also named diplomatic guests at the inaugural ceremony, including Sena Latif, Ambassador of Romania to India; Alba Smeriglio, Deputy High Commissioner at the UK Embassy in India; and Prof. Matilde María Olarte Martínez, the University of Salamanca’s Vice-Chancellor for Culture, Heritage and Sustainability. It listed diplomatic representatives from Nicaragua, Bolivia, Jamaica, Guyana, Timor-Leste, Trinidad and Tobago, Panama and Chile as well.
How the five-day programme was planned
The announced format combined discussion, institutional exchange and cultural programming. Chandigarh University described panels, academic and research meetings, institutional interactions, online sessions featuring international speakers, and cultural immersion. The release presented these activities as opportunities to explore potential collaboration.

One scheduled visit involved a delegation from Eastern Mennonite University in the United States. The university said 11 students and two faculty members were due to visit Chandigarh University on October 6–7 for interaction, academic exchange and exposure to international learning environments.

The announcement sets out the summit’s agenda and opportunities for future cooperation, but does not document signed agreements, completed research projects, final attendance or other verified results. Because the release appeared on October 6, within the summit’s October 5–9 schedule, it should be read as a mid-event account rather than a post-event report.
