Ceva’s Wi-Fi 7 releases are licensable semiconductor IP, not routers or retail chipsets. The company announced its RivieraWaves Wi-Fi 7 platform for access points and client devices in January 2024, then made its Ceva-Waves Wi-Fi 7 1×1 client IP generally available in October 2025. Both are intended for companies integrating wireless technology into their own chips and products.

What Ceva released for Wi-Fi 7

Ceva develops semiconductor intellectual property and software that chipmakers and original equipment manufacturers can license and integrate into system-on-chips (SoCs). Its current portfolio overview describes a CPU-agnostic Wi-Fi IP range spanning Wi-Fi 4 through Wi-Fi 7, for both client and access-point devices: Ceva’s Wi-Fi product overview.

The two announcements mark different stages and scopes: a broad platform release in 2024 and a specifically described 1×1 client implementation in 2025. They should not be treated as announcements of a consumer product available to buy off the shelf.

How the 2024 and 2025 releases differ

Release Scope and configuration Target uses Features and integration Availability stated by Ceva
RivieraWaves Wi-Fi 7 platform, announced January 3, 2024 Platform for access points and station/client products. The release lists 2×2 MU-OFDM(A) up to MCS13-2SS and 2×2 MU-MIMO. High-end consumer and industrial access points, plus client products such as gateways, TVs, set-top boxes, streaming devices, AR/VR, PCs and smartphones. 4K QAM, MLO, MRU, beamforming, WPA3 and WAPI, EasyMesh, PTA coexistence and flexible RF interfaces; backward compatibility with earlier Wi-Fi generations. Ceva said the access-point implementation was available; an optimized station implementation was expected later in 2024.
Ceva-Waves Wi-Fi 7 1×1 client IP, announced October 21, 2025 1×1 client IP for compact, battery-powered devices and edge systems. Wearables, smart-home devices, cameras, industrial IoT and emerging physical-AI systems. MLO with Multi-Link Multi-Radio and enhanced Multi-Link Single Radio, optional 4K QAM, channels up to 160 MHz, MRU scheduling, preamble puncturing, beamforming, dual-carrier modulation, PTA coexistence, a full MAC software stack with WPA3 and WAPI, and flexible RF interfaces. Backward compatible with Wi-Fi 4/5/6/6E. Ceva announced general availability and said multiple customers had already adopted the IP.

Sources: Ceva’s January 2024 RivieraWaves announcement and Ceva’s October 2025 1×1 client announcement. The 2024 release describes a platform spanning access points and clients; it does not characterize the entire platform as a single 2×2 implementation. The 1×1 label in the later announcement identifies that client IP configuration, not a universal description of Ceva’s Wi-Fi 7 portfolio.

What the Wi-Fi 7 features mean

  • Multi-Link Operation (MLO): lets compatible devices use links across bands to improve responsiveness and reliability. The 2025 client IP supports Multi-Link Multi-Radio and an enhanced Multi-Link Single Radio mode.
  • 4K QAM and wide channels: higher-order modulation and channels up to 160 MHz can increase throughput when supported by the full device, network conditions and configuration. Ceva lists 4K QAM as optional for the 2025 client IP.
  • Multi-Resource Unit (MRU) scheduling and preamble puncturing: Wi-Fi 7 mechanisms for using channel resources more flexibly, including in situations where part of a channel is unavailable.
  • Beamforming: helps focus transmissions toward a receiving device.
  • Coexistence: the Packet Traffic Arbiter (PTA) coordinates Wi-Fi activity with Bluetooth and other radios sharing a device or spectrum environment.
  • Security and integration: Ceva lists WPA3 and WAPI support, plus flexible RF interfaces. The 2025 release includes a full MAC software stack; the 2024 platform announcement also lists EasyMesh for its platform.

These are IP capabilities, not guarantees that every finished product will expose every feature. Implementation depends on the licensee’s chip, radio design, software, certifications and product configuration.

Who can license it, and what happens next

The intended audience is semiconductor companies and OEMs designing devices or SoCs that need Wi-Fi connectivity. A licensing discussion with Ceva is the appropriate next step for a company evaluating integration; consumers cannot buy the IP as a router, adapter or standalone chipset. Ceva says more than 60 licensees have benefited from its Ceva-Waves Wi-Fi IP family, a vendor-stated figure in its 2025 announcement—not a count specifically of Wi-Fi 7 licensees.

For context on the 2025 launch, Ceva wireless IoT general manager Tal Shalev said, “We’re proud to announce the availability of our Ceva-Waves Wi-Fi 7 1×1 client IP.” ABI Research senior research director Andrew Zignani said Wi-Fi 7 could enable low-latency, high-throughput connectivity for real-time edge intelligence and physical AI. Those comments describe the product’s intended direction; they are not independent performance tests of a Ceva-based device.
