At CES 2025, Murata presented miniaturized passive components, wireless modules and power-management solutions, while President Norio Nakajima outlined how the company plans to apply AI in manufacturing and expand beyond standard components. His interview points to three priorities: tighter control of production, application-specific products, and power solutions for data centers and other IT infrastructure.
What Murata showed at CES 2025
Murata’s CES showcase connected small electronic components with larger systems in communications, mobility and computing. The company highlighted passive components, wireless modules and power-management solutions. An example of miniaturization was an 008004-size surface-mount device measuring 0.25 × 0.125 mm, as reported by EE Times.
Murata’s official CES announcement also featured the SCH16T, a MEMS-based six-degree-of-freedom (6DoF) sensor intended for stable flight control. Murata describes low temperature drift and a wide gyroscope measurement range as relevant to achieving centimeter-level flight accuracy. The example illustrates how the company’s portfolio reaches beyond passive components into sensing for mobility applications.
How AI could change Murata’s manufacturing
Nakajima described a specific use for AI: classifying failures in the production of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). Operators have traditionally adjusted manufacturing protocols in response to those failures. Murata intends to move toward automatic process adjustment, in which classification of a failure type helps determine the correction.

Previously, our operator would manually adjust the manufacturing protocols to eliminate failures. In the near future, we will move to an automatic adjustment.”

This is a production-control ambition, not a claim that every process is already autonomous. The interview describes AI classification and a planned shift from human adjustments; it does not provide a deployment timetable, measured yield improvement or a quantified reduction in defects.

Why vertical integration matters to Murata
Nakajima linked manufacturing consistency to Murata’s control over materials and equipment. He said the company sources both internally, rather than relying on outside suppliers for those inputs. In the interview, control of ceramic particle size and furnace design are connected to production yield and consistency.

For MLCCs, where ceramic layers are central to the finished component, control over material characteristics and firing equipment gives Murata a way to coordinate upstream production choices with component performance. The interview presents this as a manufacturing capability; it does not offer comparative supplier data proving a specific cost or yield advantage.

What Murata’s Vision 2030 means
Nakajima described Vision 2030 through three portfolio layers. The first is standard products such as MLCCs and low-temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCCs). The second is application-specific components. The third is new business models. In practical terms, the framework describes a move from selling standard parts alone toward products and commercial approaches shaped around the systems and applications customers are building.

The interview identifies communications, e-mobility and IT infrastructure as important application areas. Across communications, Murata is looking from sub-GHz frequencies through millimeter wave (mmWave). Its application-specific offerings include wireless modules, lithium-ion batteries, sensors and power solutions.

Why power modules and iPaS matter for data centers
Nakajima singled out IT infrastructure as a growth opportunity, emphasizing power modules for data centers. He argued that these systems need highly reliable components; the priority is not simply making parts smaller.

Murata’s iPaS concept places custom-designed capacitors and inductors close to the power-supply module and chip. Shorter electrical paths are intended to reduce wiring losses. The package also addresses heat dissipation and lets designers tailor impedance and trace routing, alongside size. Those considerations become important when power delivery, thermal behavior and reliability have to work together in compact computing systems.

What the Resonant acquisition adds
Murata’s acquisition of Resonant brought XBAR filter technology into its portfolio. According to EE Times, XBAR is intended for higher frequencies and wider bandwidths, with steep filter characteristics, high attenuation and low loss. That positions it within Murata’s communications strategy, but the interview does not provide product-level performance figures or comparisons with alternatives.
Murata’s scale and stated purpose
EE Times reported that Murata had more than 73,000 employees and ¥1.64 trillion in revenue in its 2025 company profile. Those figures describe the company’s reported scale, not a CES product specification.
Nakajima summarized Murata’s stated mission this way: “We contribute to the advancement of society by creating innovative products and solutions.” The technologies discussed at CES show how Murata intends to connect that broad ambition to components, modules and manufacturing methods.
