Choose Cerberus if your deployment depends on Windows and needs its documented protocol range, directory integrations, or file-integrity features. Choose Syncplify if you need a self-hosted Windows or Linux server, virtual sites, automation, a REST API, or a documented HA-cluster option. Those are product-fit guidelines, not a report of a completed switch: public sources do not establish a firsthand migration or its results. Before committing, match the required features to the exact edition, verify the target topology, and estimate costs for the full ownership period.

What the products document

Both products are self-hosted secure file-transfer servers, but their documented platform and protocol choices differ. Cerberus describes a Windows server supporting FTP, SFTP, FTPS, HTTP/S, and SCP. Syncplify describes a Windows- and Linux-compatible server supporting SFTP, FTPS, and HTTPS. Consult the vendors’ current documentation to confirm protocol behavior and edition eligibility for your specific deployment.

Automation and integration Audit trails, SQL log capture, and public-key authentication are among features identified on the pricing and feature matrix; edition availability varies. SyncJS scripting, virtual sites, REST API, and web client are described on the product page.
Deployment shape Windows server offering; verify the supported design for your required availability setup. Single node or HA cluster, according to the vendor knowledge base.

Which server fits your requirements?

Choose Cerberus when Windows and protocol breadth matter

Cerberus is the closer documented fit if Windows is a fixed requirement and you need one or more of FTP, SFTP, FTPS, HTTP/S, or SCP. Its product overview also describes Active Directory and LDAP integration, TLS 1.3, several key types, and SHA-256/SHA-512 integrity checks. These capabilities do not establish that every edition includes every feature: use the current matrix to identify the edition that meets your security, auditing, and integration requirements.

Choose Syncplify when Linux, virtual sites, or automation matter

Syncplify’s documentation lists Windows and Linux support, SFTP/FTPS/HTTPS, and either single-node or HA-cluster deployment. Its product page describes SyncJS automation, virtual sites, a REST API, and a web client. These are useful selection criteria if you need to consolidate isolated services, automate transfer workflows, or integrate administration with other systems; confirm which license tier includes each feature.

Check client compatibility before selecting by protocol name

A protocol label alone does not prove that a server will work with your partners’ clients or workflows. Inventory the actual connection method, authentication, key or certificate expectations, transfer behaviors, and any automation that depends on the existing server. Test representative client configurations against the target product before scheduling a cutover.

How to compare pricing fairly

The prices below were listed by the vendors in 2026 and observed on October 7, 2026. They are snapshots, not guaranteed current quotes. The license models differ, so the figures are not directly comparable without checking edition features, support, deployment size, and the period you plan to own the software.

Product and tier Vendor-listed price and model Relevant qualification
Cerberus Professional $1,599 per year Annual price listed by Cerberus; the vendor says pricing is not per user or connection.
Cerberus Enterprise $3,499 per year Annual price listed by Cerberus; verify the feature matrix for required capabilities.
Cerberus Enterprise Plus Quote-based Request a quote for the planned requirements.
Syncplify Basic $399 perpetual license Tier features and terms should be verified on the current pricing page.
Syncplify Professional $849 perpetual license Vendor pricing page lists three virtual SFTP sites and HA; HA requires one license per node.
Syncplify Ultimate $1,599 perpetual license Vendor pricing page lists unlimited virtual sites and the WebClient; HA requires one license per node.

Build a like-for-like cost estimate

  • Compare the specific editions that include your required protocols, identity integrations, auditing, automation, and web access.
  • For Syncplify HA, include a license for each node; a cluster’s license total therefore depends on node count.
  • For Cerberus, include the recurring annual price over your planned ownership period rather than comparing one year with a perpetual license.
  • Include support, implementation, testing, and migration labor in the project estimate. Confirm applicable support terms directly with each vendor.
  • Record any quote assumptions, such as platform count, deployment topology, and required features, so future price comparisons use the same scope.

Syncplify’s comparison page characterizes its own HA approach as built-in active-active and describes Cerberus as using configuration synchronization with an external load balancer. This is a vendor-authored comparison, not an independent validation. Confirm the architecture, failover behavior, and licensing for the exact versions and design you intend to deploy: Syncplify’s comparison page.

Plan a migration without assuming the products are interchangeable

A server migration is a compatibility and operations project, not simply an installation. The available public product descriptions do not establish how a particular environment will migrate, whether downtime will occur, or what performance or savings to expect. Treat the following as a practical planning sequence, and validate each step in a test environment.

  1. Inventory the current service. Record operating system, protocol endpoints, users and groups, authentication methods, keys and certificates, directory integrations, virtual sites or isolated areas, scheduled jobs, client configurations, logging, retention, and network rules.
  2. Map requirements to a target edition. Match each required feature to the current vendor matrix or product documentation. Separate must-haves from optional capabilities, and confirm any edition or node-count conditions in writing.
  3. Rebuild configuration deliberately. Plan how identities, permissions, directories, host keys, certificates, automation, and logging will be represented on the new server. Do not assume configuration files or settings transfer directly between products.
  4. Test representative transfers and integrations. Use non-production accounts and data to verify authentication, uploads, downloads, integrity checks, partner clients, scheduled workflows, audit records, and recovery behavior. Include failure cases that matter to your service, such as unavailable directory access or a node outage.
  5. Prepare cutover and rollback. Set a change window, communicate endpoint or credential changes to partners, preserve a recoverable copy of the old configuration and data, define validation checks, and decide in advance what condition triggers rollback.
  6. Monitor after cutover. Check successful and failed transfers, authentication events, logs, scheduled tasks, and partner confirmations before retiring the previous service.

What is established—and what is not—about switching

The product pages establish documented capabilities and current vendor-listed licensing, but they do not establish that the writer or a particular organization switched from Cerberus to Syncplify. No firsthand migration record, environment details, outage history, failures, measured savings, or operational results are available here. Accordingly, a responsible comparison can guide evaluation and planning, but cannot claim that one product performed better after a real-world switch.
