Casio announced the Japan-made MR-G MRG-D5000 on October 1, 2026, as a 20-piece worldwide edition. Its unusual feature is not simply blue sapphire decoration: Casio says sapphire components form part of a shock-resistant bezel-and-case structure. Casio America says six watches are allocated to the U.S., at an announced $80,000 each, with arrivals expected from December 2026 through June 2027.
How Casio designed a sapphire G-SHOCK for impact
Sapphire is hard and scratch-resistant, but it can crack under impact. Casio’s stated engineering challenge was to incorporate blue sapphire into a shock-resistant watch without treating it like an ordinary decorative stone.
Casio says the MRG-D5000 uses its Multi-Guard Structure for Sapphire: the bezel and case are built from separate components in a screwless arrangement. The company says it analyzed how impact forces travel to the sapphire and designed the multi-part structure to help protect it. The release describes this as the first G-SHOCK to use blue-sapphire components in a shock-resistant structure. These are Casio’s engineering claims; the cited launch materials do not include independent durability testing.
The caseback is screw-lock titanium with a sapphire insert, and each of the 20 watches has an individual serial number. Casio says the module uses Gallium Tough Solar. The U.S. product page explains that sapphire ingots take several months to produce and that makers select sections for color concentration and transparency before shaping components to resist chipping. It also says the construction draws inspiration from kigumi, traditional Japanese timber framing with interlocking joints.

Price, U.S. availability, and how registration works
The MRG-D5000 is not a broadly available release. Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced 20 pieces worldwide. Separately, Casio America says six units are expected in the U.S. between December 2026 and June 2027, at an announced U.S. value/price of $80,000 each. That figure and allocation apply to the U.S.; Casio’s announcement does not establish a single global retail price.

How the MRG-D5000 differs from two sapphire-accented G-SHOCKs
Casio also announced two blue-sapphire-themed watches, but their use of sapphire, positioning, and announced U.S. prices differ substantially from the MRG-D5000.
| Model | How sapphire is used | Positioning and announced U.S. price | Edition and timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| MRG-D5000 | Blue sapphire components are incorporated into the bezel-and-case structure; Casio describes its Multi-Guard Structure as designed to protect sapphire from impact. | MR-G; Casio America announced $80,000 per U.S. unit. | 20 pieces worldwide; six U.S. units expected December 2026–June 2027. |
| MRG-B5000SA | Two-carat faceted blue sapphire crystals sit at the top and bottom of the case; the bezel uses a super-hard alloy. | MR-G; Casio America lists $6,600. | 500 pieces; U.S. availability begins November 2026. |
| GMW-B5000SB | Four blue sapphire stones are set at points on the front bezel of a full-metal G-SHOCK. | Full-metal G-SHOCK; Casio America lists $770. | Casio’s cited U.S. announcement does not state a run size; availability begins November 2026. |
Casio America says the MRG-B5000SA and GMW-B5000SB are expected through G-SHOCK, the G-SHOCK Soho Store, and select retailers beginning in November 2026. Unlike those sapphire-accented designs, Casio presents the MRG-D5000 as a watch whose sapphire is part of the structure intended to manage impact.
