If Cash App suspends or closes your account, you may lose access to the app, but that does not automatically mean your remaining balance is gone. Cash App’s U.S. terms say it may make funds available for withdrawal, subject to its discretion, applicable fees, other terms, and possible holds. There is no universal deadline for release, and access to the money does not guarantee that Cash App will reopen your account.
What Cash App says happens to the balance
Cash App’s U.S. Terms of Service, last updated June 4, 2026, allow the company to suspend or terminate an account or access to a service at any time, for any reason, including a violation of the terms. The terms say Cash App will take reasonable steps to notify you by email or in the app the next time you try to access the account.

The terms do not promise immediate access to a balance after closure. They say funds held in custody may be made available for withdrawal at Cash App’s discretion, less applicable fees and subject to the terms. Cash App may require you to use a new bank account that was not previously associated with the account.
Cash App’s terms page also includes an explanatory annotation saying it will settle pending transactions and return remaining funds, while noting that an investigation may require a hold. The page expressly says annotations are not part of the legal terms and have no legal effect. The operative terms therefore matter: withdrawal may be offered at Cash App’s discretion, and funds can remain unavailable while a hold applies.

Why a balance may be unavailable
Pending investigation or financial risk
Cash App says it may hold funds against potential reversals, chargebacks, claims, fees, fines, penalties, or other liability. It may also hold funds while a pending investigation is resolved. The terms do not set one maximum hold period for every account, so a specific release date cannot be assumed.
Identity or account verification
Cash App may ask for more information to validate your identity or account details. An account can remain restricted if you do not provide requested information or Cash App cannot verify your identity to its satisfaction. Cash App’s Security page says identity confirmation is required before you can send, receive, or withdraw money. Completing verification may address an access issue, but it does not establish a right to reinstatement.

- Double check if the URL/website is genuine before entering card details online. Do not provide any gift card details (example: claim code) to someone you do not know or trust. There are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
- If you believe that your Card has been lost or stolen, notify Mastercard immediately by calling 1-833-791-7288. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Mastercard Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted, including online. Your Amazon.com Balance cannot be used to purchase Mastercard gift cards.
Policy or other account concerns
The Acceptable Use Policy and Terms describe policy violations, identity-verification issues, suspected unauthorized or illegal activity, and prohibited activity as contexts that can lead to restrictions or termination. These provisions do not identify why a particular account was acted on. Ask Cash App about your own case rather than assuming a specific cause.

- Check the notice. Review any message in the app and the email associated with your account, including account-specific instructions. The terms do not promise detailed reasons for every decision.
- Contact official support. Ask whether the account is suspended, restricted, or closed; what is happening to the remaining balance; whether a review or investigation is open; and which withdrawal method is available.
- Follow the withdrawal instructions provided for your account. If Cash App requires a new linked bank account, use the instructions it gives you. This option is not guaranteed to be available in every case.
- Keep records. Save relevant notices and support messages, and note when you contacted support and what response you received. These details can help you explain the issue if you need to follow up.
How to contact Cash App safely
Cash App lists support through its app, cash.app/help, and 1-800-969-1940. Its Terms identify that as the only phone number available for Cash App support. Use the official app or site, or call that number; do not trust unsolicited calls, messages, or search results claiming to provide account recovery.

- To access your card information safely, type the complete website address shown on your Gift Card (MyGift.GiftCardMall.com) directly into your browser's address bar. Don't use search engines or shortened versions of the website address, as these may lead you to fake or fraudulent sites. Do not provide any Gift Card details (example: Card Number) to someone you do not know or trust. If you believe you've reached an illegitimate website, contact cardholder service at 1-888-524-1283. Be cautious of phishing sites, there are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
- To report your Lost or Stolen Physical Visa Card, call Customer Service 24/7 at 1 (888) 524-1283 to cancel your Gift Card as soon as you can. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Visa Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, including online.
Cash App says its representatives will not ask for your password, PIN, or full debit card number. Do not share those details with anyone claiming they can restore your account or release your balance.

Cash App’s Terms list the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as a complaint channel for prepaid-account complaints: consumerfinance.gov/complaint or 1-855-411-2372. A complaint gives you another route to raise the issue; it does not guarantee that Cash App will reverse an account decision or release funds immediately.
