Casa Copycha, a beach house in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, pairs an exposed-concrete structure with a large thatched palapa roof instead of relying on glass-heavy coastal design. A Yanko Design feature by Srishti Mitra, published October 2, 2026, identifies Anonimous as the designer and describes planted courtyards, a green roof, and an upstairs plunge pool facing the Pacific.

What is Casa Copycha?

Casa Copycha is reported to sit on the sandy shores of Puerto Escondido, on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Yanko Design names Anonimous as its designer, but does not identify individual architects or give a project date. The published account describes the house through its materials and spaces rather than providing drawings or a technical project statement.

How concrete and palm shape the design

Exposed concrete and planted spaces

The feature describes exposed concrete as the home’s structural backbone. Planted courtyards bring greenery and light into the plan, while a green roof adds vegetation above the structure. These elements give the house a visual character different from the glass-forward coastal architecture the article uses as a point of contrast.

A broad thatched palapa

The reported centerpiece is a palapa measuring 20 meters long by 12 meters wide. Yanko Design says it is made with parota wood and thatched with local palm. The feature interprets the roof as a reference to vernacular construction traditions on Mexico’s Pacific coast, but does not name the craftspeople, explain the roof assembly, or cite a local historical source. Its dimensions and material details should therefore be understood as the publication’s account, not independently verified construction documentation.

What the upper level offers

Yanko Design describes an upstairs rooftop plunge pool framed by views of the Pacific through concrete beams. Terraces and balconies extend the indoor-outdoor arrangement, connecting the house’s interior spaces to outdoor areas and the coastal outlook.

What the article’s architectural references mean

The feature contrasts Casa Copycha with what it calls “glass maximalism” and describes the design as drawing on local monasteries and haciendas. Those are the publication’s editorial characterizations: it names no specific precedent and provides no historical account or local expert attribution to establish a more precise lineage. The supported design comparison is visual and spatial—glass-forward architecture versus a composition of concrete, palm thatch, planted courtyards, terraces, and views.

What is—and is not—established about performance

The published description does not provide measured information about energy use, thermal comfort, durability, maintenance, cost, or storm resilience. Concrete, palm thatch, courtyards, and a green roof may suggest questions worth asking about climate response, but the material palette alone does not establish how the house performs. No environmental or engineering conclusion can be drawn from the feature’s account.
