Carlos Baleba reportedly made his first Manchester United appearance in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Lausanne-Sport on Friday, October 2, 2026. United won 2–1, according to a syndicated report, but this was a fitness-building outing—not Baleba’s competitive debut. The reports do not support describing him as a “flop.”
Who is the “forgotten Man Utd flop”?
The player identified in reports about the Lausanne-Sport friendly is Carlos Baleba. The “forgotten Man Utd flop” label in the supplied headline is not substantiated by the available coverage, which describes an injury-delayed return to match action rather than a performance judgment. Yahoo Sports’ syndicated account and other reports identify Baleba as the player involved.
Did Carlos Baleba play against Lausanne?
Reports say Baleba played in a closed-door friendly against Lausanne-Sport at Carrington on Friday, October 2, 2026. The match provided game time for players who were not away on international duty. Baleba’s competitive debut had been delayed by injury, and the outing was framed as a chance to build fitness. Manchester Evening News reported the friendly appearance.
A Yahoo-syndicated account paraphrases Michael Carrick as saying Baleba was pushing to return quickly; it does not provide a verified direct quotation. The report should therefore be treated as a paraphrase, not quoted words from Carrick.

No. The reported appearance was in a friendly played behind closed doors, not a competitive fixture. It gave Baleba minutes as he worked back from injury, but the reports do not establish how long he played, whether he scored or assisted, or the specific injury diagnosis. Matthijs de Ligt was also reported to have started, alongside first-team and academy players.
