If pasting into a YouTube comment or other text field fails in Firefox, first check whether the problem is limited to YouTube. For that specific symptom, a troubleshooting guide suggests checking Firefox’s dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled preference; for broader problems, test Firefox add-ons and follow YouTube’s general browser troubleshooting steps. These are diagnostic steps, not a guaranteed single fix.
First identify what is failing
Copying text out of a YouTube page, pasting text into YouTube, and copying or pasting elsewhere are separate tests. Try each relevant action before changing browser settings:
- Select text on YouTube, copy it, and paste it into another application or a different website.
- Copy text from another source and try to paste it into a YouTube field, such as a comment box.
- Test copy and paste on another website.
If only pasting into YouTube fails, use the targeted preference check below. If the problem also affects other sites or applications, skip that targeted step and investigate Firefox add-ons and browser conditions instead.
If you cannot paste into a YouTube field
BrowserHow’s topic-specific guide recommends checking a Firefox preference when pasting into YouTube fails. It is a secondary-source suggestion, not a Mozilla-endorsed fix for every clipboard problem. Change it only if your symptom matches.

about:configin Firefox’s address bar and proceed to the advanced preferences page. - Search for
dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled. - If its value is
false, toggle it totrue. If it is alreadytrue, this suggestion does not identify the cause; do not change other preferences at random. - Retry pasting into the same YouTube field.
A historical Mozilla Bugzilla report describes a similar YouTube comment-paste complaint and notes that the proposed setting could cause problems on other sites. If copy or paste fails beyond YouTube, test add-ons
Mozilla recommends Firefox Troubleshoot Mode to check whether add-ons or other customizations are involved. If the problem goes away in that mode, an add-on is a likely cause; re-enable add-ons and disable them selectively to identify the conflict. Troubleshoot Mode is an isolation test, not necessarily a permanent solution. Once you find a likely add-on, check its settings or leave it disabled if you do not need it.
Try YouTube’s general browser checks
YouTube’s recommendations for browser problems include updating the browser, clearing its cache and cookies, and checking whether extensions are involved. These are general YouTube troubleshooting steps, not clipboard-specific fixes. - Update Firefox: install any available browser update, then retry the same copy or paste action.
- Test a private window: use it to compare behavior with your usual session, bearing in mind that extensions may be disabled there or configured differently.
- Clear cache and cookies: this can affect saved site data and sign-ins, so be prepared to sign in again where needed.
What Firefox clipboard permissions do—and do not—control
Do not look for Chromium-style website permissions named clipboard-read or clipboard-write and try to grant them in Firefox. MDN documents that Firefox does not support those Permissions API clipboard permissions. That is different from a user pressing a keyboard shortcut or pasting into a text field. Clipboard events and web clipboard APIs have browser-specific restrictions, and a site’s event handlers can affect clipboard operations. MDN’s Clipboard API overview describes those distinctions.
MDN also notes that document.execCommand("copy"), cut, and paste are deprecated and are not guaranteed to work or remain available. This describes a web-development API; it does not mean Firefox has deprecated ordinary keyboard shortcuts or that this explains your symptom. Read MDN’s clipboard interaction guidance.

If the problem remains
Before asking for help, note whether copying, pasting, or both fail; whether the issue occurs only on YouTube; and whether it changes in Troubleshoot Mode or a private window. Firefox’s about:support page provides the browser version and environment information that can help diagnose a problem. Mozilla documents it alongside other troubleshooting options, including Refresh Firefox; because a refresh is a broader reset, try reversible tests first.
