Yes, but only on a Samsung refrigerator with Family Hub, and only for apps Samsung makes available in its Apps menu. You cannot install arbitrary Android or third-party apps on the fridge. If your model supports SmartThings, you can also use a phone or tablet to monitor or control some refrigerator features—but that does not add apps to the refrigerator display.
Which Samsung refrigerators can install apps?
Samsung’s app-installation instructions apply to Family Hub refrigerators, not every Samsung refrigerator. Some Family Hub apps come preinstalled; additional apps can be downloaded only when Samsung offers them for that model and software version. Samsung says the choices may change over time or when Family Hub software is updated.
Samsung Support puts the limit plainly: “The apps listed in the Apps menu are the only apps available for Family Hub. You cannot install any other apps, such as Android apps.” See Samsung’s Family Hub app guidance.

After installation, the app appears with the other apps on the refrigerator. This procedure installs only apps offered in the refrigerator’s Apps menu; it does not provide access to Google Play, APK sideloading, or apps installed on your phone. Samsung’s instructions for customizing the Family Hub panel describe the available-app restriction.

No. SmartThings is a separate phone or tablet connection for supported refrigerator features. Once connected, the refrigerator appears in the SmartThings app, where you may be able to monitor or control features such as refrigerator status or view inside the fridge. Those controls run through the mobile app; they do not expand the apps available on the Family Hub display. See Samsung’s Family Hub setup instructions and SmartThings compatibility guidance.

For the US compatibility guidance cited by Samsung, the mobile device requirements are Android 9 or later with at least 2 GB of RAM, or iOS 15.0 or later on supported iPhone and iPad models with at least 2 GB of RAM. These are requirements for connecting a mobile device to Family Hub, not for installing an app on the refrigerator. Requirements and availability can vary by location, so check Samsung’s current guidance for your region.

Open the Family Hub Apps menu on the refrigerator to see what it currently offers. For model- and software-specific information, Samsung directs owners to the panel’s Settings > Help and contact us > Online manual, or to the downloadable manual for the exact refrigerator model. Samsung notes that each Family Hub model has a web manual for its version; see its Family Hub manual and FAQ guidance.
