There is no evidence-based overall winner between CanSpace Solutions and GreenGeeks. CanSpace is the clearer fit if Canadian data location, CAD billing, included mailboxes, and a vendor-stated price lock matter most. GreenGeeks is a stronger fit if you need multiple websites on one shared plan and want its published environmental commitments. Compare the actual billing term, currency, renewal price, and plan limits before choosing; the published prices are not directly equivalent.

CanSpace vs GreenGeeks: quick comparison

CanSpace plan and store details; CanSpace business offer. Lite: $2.95 per month on a 12-month prepaid introductory term; $13.95 per month on renewal. The cited price is displayed in dollars; a matching CAD price is not established here. GreenGeeks shared hosting plans.

Data location CanSpace says its servers and stored data are in Canada. CanSpace business offer. Canadian data residency is not established in the sources cited here.

Prices above reflect different currencies and commitments: CanSpace’s store lists CAD pricing, while GreenGeeks’ cited page shows an introductory rate prepaid for 12 months and a separate renewal rate. Taxes and the exact checkout total are not established by those figures. Do not infer that one host is cheaper without comparing the same currency, billing period, taxes, and included features.

Which web host is better for a Canadian business?

CanSpace is the more straightforward choice when keeping hosting data in Canada is a priority. The company says its servers and stored data are located in Canada, bills its listed plans in CAD, and says its shared-hosting prices do not increase at renewal. These are company statements, not independent audits; confirm any data-location or pricing requirement directly with the provider before relying on it for a legal or contractual obligation.

CanSpace also includes listed email mailboxes with its shared plans: 10 on Starter and unlimited on Medium and Professional. The trade-off is plan capacity: Starter is listed with 5 GB SSD, 15 GB bandwidth, five domains, and 10 mailboxes. If your business needs more room, domains, or mailboxes, compare the Medium and Professional limits rather than assuming the entry plan will cover them.

CanSpace plan limits and upgrade signals

Plan Prepaid three-year rate Month-to-month rate Listed capacity
Starter C$4.99 per month C$11.99 per month 5 GB SSD, 15 GB bandwidth, five domains, 10 mailboxes
Medium C$9.99 per month C$24.99 per month 50 GB SSD, unlimited bandwidth, domains, and mailboxes
Professional C$22.99 per month C$42.99 per month 200 GB SSD, unlimited bandwidth, domains, and mailboxes

CanSpace’s support guide says its shared tiers, from smallest to largest, are “Starter, Medium, Professional.” It says moving from Starter to Medium may be appropriate if you exceed the 5 GB disk quota, need more than five databases or 10 email accounts, or need SSH, Git, Node.js, or Ruby access. The guide points to VPS hosting for shared CPU or RAM limits, PostgreSQL or Docker requirements, or root access. See CanSpace’s upgrade guidance.

How much does GreenGeeks cost after renewal?

GreenGeeks’ displayed introductory price is tied to a 12-month prepaid term, and its published renewal rate is substantially higher. Budget around the renewal figure shown for the plan, not only the promotional monthly equivalent.

Plan Introductory rate (12 months prepaid) Published renewal rate Listed capacity
Lite $2.95 per month $13.95 per month One website, 25 GB, unmetered traffic
Pro $4.95 per month $18.95 per month Unlimited websites, 50 GB, unmetered traffic
Premium $8.95 per month $30.95 per month Unlimited websites, 100 GB, unmetered traffic

These are GreenGeeks’ displayed dollar prices, not confirmed Canadian-dollar totals. The plan page cited here does not establish the full checkout currency, taxes, or every billing-term option. Check the current checkout before paying, especially if you are comparing the cost with CanSpace’s CAD rates.

Which hosting plan lets you host multiple websites?

GreenGeeks lists unlimited websites on Pro and Premium; Lite is listed for one website. CanSpace describes its capacity in terms of domains: Starter lists five domains, while Medium and Professional list unlimited domains. A domain allowance and a website allowance are not necessarily identical measures, so confirm how the host treats additional sites, subdomains, and resource use before choosing.

If multiple sites are central to the decision, GreenGeeks Pro is the first listed tier that explicitly supports unlimited websites. CanSpace Medium is the first tier in its published lineup with unlimited domains. Do not treat “unlimited” as unlimited server resources; shared hosting remains subject to plan and service limits.

Canadian data residency and environmental claims

CanSpace says that all of its servers and stored data are in Canada and that its servers run on renewable hydroelectric power. GreenGeeks reports a 300% energy match and account-linked tree planting; the company also says it has been an EPA Green Power Partner since 2009. These are vendor-reported claims, not a lifecycle assessment or a like-for-like independent comparison. The sources cited here do not establish GreenGeeks’ data-residency details, so do not assume that its location controls match CanSpace’s stated Canadian location.

What the available evidence cannot tell you

  • Which host is faster or more reliable: the vendor plan pages do not provide an independent, controlled head-to-head speed or uptime test. HostAdvice displays provider-specific ratings and user reviews, but those are not a common controlled test. HostAdvice’s CanSpace reviews; HostAdvice’s GreenGeeks reviews.
  • GreenGeeks’ Canadian data location: the cited material does not establish it. Ask the provider for the locations relevant to your account and backups if jurisdiction is a requirement.
  • Your exact total cost: the listed rates do not, by themselves, settle checkout currency, tax, or all term-specific charges. Verify those details against the current order summary.

How to choose before checkout

  1. Count your websites and domains. Match the plan’s stated site or domain allowance to your setup; remember the hosts describe this in different terms.
  2. Estimate storage and traffic needs. Starter’s listed 5 GB SSD and 15 GB bandwidth are distinct limits; compare them with your expected use and the higher CanSpace tiers or GreenGeeks’ listed storage.
  3. Check email needs. CanSpace states mailbox counts by tier. The cited GreenGeeks plan extract does not establish an email allowance, so verify it directly if business email is essential.
  4. Confirm jurisdiction requirements. If Canadian data location is mandatory, get a clear answer about stored data and backups rather than relying on a general marketing description.
  5. Calculate the commitment and renewal. Put the complete initial payment, billing term, displayed currency, taxes, and renewal rate side by side. GreenGeeks’ intro rate is for a 12-month prepayment; CanSpace shows three-year prepayment and month-to-month rates.
  6. Decide whether shared hosting is sufficient. If you need root access, Docker, PostgreSQL, or more CPU/RAM than a shared plan allows, CanSpace’s support guide indicates that VPS may be a better category to investigate.
  7. Read the guarantee and migration terms. CanSpace advertises free migration and a 30-day money-back guarantee; GreenGeeks lists a 30-day money-back guarantee. Check current legal terms and exclusions before purchase. CanSpace business offer; GreenGeeks shared hosting plans.
