Canoo unveiled a planned electric pickup on March 10, 2021, pitching a relatively compact truck with a configurable motor setup, an extendable bed, and work-focused storage and power features. Its figures were company-announced targets, not verified production results. Canoo and certain subsidiaries filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in January 2025, so the 2021 delivery projection is historical; the available sources do not establish that the pickup is currently available to order.
What Canoo announced in 2021
Canoo debuted the pickup during the Motor Press Guild’s Virtual Media Day in partnership with Automobility LA. In its March 10, 2021 announcement, the company said preorders were expected to open in the second quarter of 2021, with deliveries beginning as early as 2023. Those dates were projections, not confirmation that orders or deliveries ultimately occurred.
The design was cabin-forward and based on Canoo’s platform architecture. The company presented the truck as a work-and-weekend vehicle, with a comparatively short exterior footprint paired with practical bed and storage features.

What were the announced Canoo pickup specs?
The following figures come from Canoo announcements in 2021. They describe the planned vehicle and should not be read as independently tested performance or finalized production specifications.

There is a notable difference in Canoo’s power wording across its announcements. The May 17, 2021 release described the dual-motor version as having “500+hp” and 550 lb-ft, alongside the same 1,800-lb payload and 200+-mile range claims. Canoo said final specifications would be disclosed closer to production. The company’s May 17 release therefore does not justify combining the two horsepower descriptions into one definitive production figure.

Together, those features formed the heart of Canoo’s pitch: use the truck as a mobile workspace and adapt the bed and surrounding surfaces for different jobs. They remain descriptions of the planned design, not evidence of equipment on a retail vehicle.

The sources cited here do not establish that the pickup entered retail production or became available for purchase. Canoo’s preorder and delivery dates were announced expectations in 2021, and the company later entered liquidation.

On January 17, 2025, Canoo and certain subsidiaries filed for Chapter 7 liquidation. Canoo’s SEC filing said a trustee would take control of assets and liabilities, which were to be liquidated under the Bankruptcy Code. This filing establishes the liquidation process, but it does not establish the final disposition of the pickup program or whether a later buyer acquired related assets. As a result, there is no basis in these sources to describe the truck as currently orderable.

Canoo’s announcement gives a clear picture of the intended concept: a short truck with an extendable bed, work-oriented features, and electric powertrain options. It does not provide a basis for judging real-world range, towing performance, build quality, production pricing, or final specifications. No independent production-vehicle test figures are established in the cited announcements.

Tony Aquila, Canoo’s executive chairman at the time, said the company made accessories for people who use trucks “on the job, weekends, adventure.” That is useful context for the intended audience, but it is promotional positioning rather than an independent assessment of the truck’s capabilities.
