The Canon MAXIFY GX7160 looks well equipped for a small office that needs to print, scan, copy and fax: Canon lists two 250-sheet cassettes, a rear feed, automatic duplex printing and scanning, and a 50-sheet document feeder. Its advertised ink yields are high, but they are estimates—not guaranteed page counts or proof of a particular cost per page. The available information here is Canon’s regional product and support documentation, not independent testing, so it does not establish print quality, reliability, noise, or comparative value.
What the GX7160 offers
Canon New Zealand positions the MAXIFY GX7160 as a refillable-ink multifunction printer for small offices. It prints, scans, copies and faxes, with automatic two-sided printing and automatic duplex scanning. That combination can suit offices handling both routine paperwork and multi-page originals, while the fax function may be useful where it remains part of a business workflow.
For connections, Canon lists Wi-Fi, wired LAN, USB-B, direct connection and USB-A flash support. The product page also names Canon PRINT, Apple AirPrint and Mopria compatibility. Check the local product listing for region-specific details before buying.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPaper capacity and document handling
The GX7160 has two lower cassettes that each hold 250 sheets and a rear tray that holds up to 100 sheets. Canon’s listed total is therefore up to 600 sheets of plain paper across all three feeds—not 600 sheets in the cassettes alone. The separate rear feed can be useful when switching among paper types or sizes without unloading a cassette.

- 2.7” LCD Color Touchscreen
- Auto 2-sided printing
- ADF – 35 sheet Auto Document Feeder
The 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) supports document scanning and copying, and Canon lists automatic duplex scanning. That is a useful feature set for offices digitizing or copying two-sided originals; the product specifications alone do not establish scan speed or image quality.
Canon also lists support for media such as envelopes, brochures, stickers and business-card media, plus custom-length media up to 1,200 mm in the rear tray. These are manufacturer-listed capabilities, not evidence of independently assessed output quality on those materials.

Speed and print resolution
Canon New Zealand lists print speeds of up to 24 images per minute (ipm) for black-and-white documents and up to 15.5 ipm for colour. These are manufacturer specifications accessed in 2026, not results from independent testing. Actual throughput can depend on the document, settings and workflow, and the published figures do not by themselves show how quickly the printer handles duplex jobs.
The same regional page lists a print resolution of 600 × 1200 dpi. That specification is not a substitute for sample-based assessment of text, graphics or photographs.

Ink yields: useful estimates, not guaranteed page counts
Canon New Zealand lists up to 6,000 black and 14,000 colour prints per set of replacement bottles. It says these declared yields are estimated using its individual test method, based on the ISO/IEC 24712 colour chart and continuous printing simulation after initial setup. In Economy Mode, Canon lists up to 9,000 black and 21,000 colour pages per set.
Those figures require careful interpretation. Canon says actual yield varies significantly with printed content and other factors; initial setup bottles yield less than replacement bottles because some ink is used to fill the print head. The black and colour yield figures should not be added together, and they do not guarantee how many pages an individual office will get. Economy Mode figures are a separate manufacturer claim and should not be treated as equivalent to ordinary-mode yields.

Price and the buying decision
Canon New Zealand showed an RRP of NZ$949 when its product page was accessed in 2026. This is a New Zealand regional reference, not a verified current retailer price or a global price; Canon directs customers to retailers for pricing. Compare the actual price in your market and check whether the included setup ink and the printer’s workflow features fit your needs.
The GX7160 is a plausible shortlist candidate if your office values two-sided scanning, multiple paper feeds, a large stated paper capacity, faxing and refillable ink. The specifications do not establish whether it is faster, cheaper to run, more reliable or better in output quality than competing printers. A sound comparison should use comparable duplex and simplex speed tests, local replacement-ink prices and yield methods, the ADF and duplex-scan workflow, connectivity, OS support and your market’s purchase price.
