The Canon MAXIFY GX6560 MegaTank is a bottle-fed inkjet aimed at small offices and home offices that print regularly. Its published figures are attractive on paper: claimed black and colour document speeds, a wired and dual-band wireless connection, and ink bottles with high claimed page yields. What the accessible sources do not establish is how it performs in use. This review therefore explains the manufacturer and reseller figures as claims, shows what each one means for your workload, and sets out what to verify before you buy.
Who this printer suits, based on the claims
The specifications point to a particular kind of buyer. Use this checklist to decide whether the GX6560 is worth shortlisting:
- Regular text printing: The claimed black speed is the headline figure, so the model is most relevant if you print many black-and-white pages each week.
- Occasional colour: The claimed colour speed is lower than the black figure, and colour work is where you will most want to see independent results before committing.
- Shared network printing: Wired LAN and 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless LAN are listed, which suits a printer shared by several people.
- Predictable consumables budget: Ink is sold in bottles, so the running cost depends on bottle prices in your country and your own page mix, not on cartridge packs.
- Limited desk space: The listed footprint is large for a desktop device, so it may only fit a dedicated surface or a larger workspace.
If you print only a few pages a month, or need a compact device for a small desk, the figures above argue against shortlisting it.
Model identity and regional context
Canon Australia’s support site names the “MAXIFY GX6560 MegaTank” and links model-specific setup instructions on its GX6560 Setup Instructions page. The same support notice states that driver downloads cover products sold in Australia and New Zealand. The regional scope matters: the evidence on this model comes from Australian and New Zealand sources, and other GX65xx variants sold elsewhere should not be assumed to match it.

Canon New Zealand’s Ink Bottle GI-66 page lists the GX6560 among compatible models. Confirm the exact printer variant and bottle SKU at the point of purchase, particularly if you are outside Australia or New Zealand.
Claimed specifications
The figures below come from a technical specification sheet for the GX6560 hosted by Australian reseller Alloys, in its MAXIFY GX6560 technical sheet. The sheet’s publication date was not established in the material reviewed, so it should be read as a current manufacturer-derived listing rather than a dated test.

Speed and resolution in practice
The speed figures are the most useful for comparison, but only if read carefully. The black figure is roughly 1.5 times the colour figure on the sheet, which is typical of this class of device, and the two numbers describe different workloads. Neither figure says how long a mixed job takes once you include warm-up, page feeding, duplex printing or photos. Resolution, at 600 × 1,200 dpi, describes the maximum addressable grid, not the sharpness or colour accuracy you will see on paper.

Size, weight and placement
At about 11.5 kg and roughly 645 mm deep, the GX6560 needs a stable surface and clearance for its paper path and front access. Measure your desk, including room for the paper tray and output tray, before you order. Because the listed dimensions do not state which side is the depth, confirm them against Canon’s own product page or the local listing.
Connectivity
The listed connections cover the most common home and small office setups: wired LAN, dual-band wireless, and USB for direct connection. The USB-A port is listed for flash memory, so you can print directly from a drive, and the USB-B Hi-Speed port is listed for a computer connection. Mobile printing, cloud printing and the supported operating systems are not covered in the reviewed specification sheet, so check Canon Australia’s setup pages for your platform before relying on them.
Ink: compatibility and claimed yields

These are Canon’s claims for its own test conditions. The page does not state a publication year, and the yields are not a calculation of your cost per page. Your actual yield depends on how much you print in colour, the content of each page, print mode and how often the printer runs its cleaning cycles.
Working out your own cost per page
To estimate running cost, divide the local price of each bottle by its claimed yield, then multiply by the number of pages you expect to print in that colour. Do this separately for black and colour, because the colour bottles are not used at the same rate on a typical text-heavy workload. Use prices you have checked on the day you buy, not a figure from an older listing.
Independent review status
CHOICE publishes a review listing titled “Canon Maxify GX6560 MegaTank review” on its product page. The accessible version of that page shows the listing and a price, but its expert rating is available to members, and several test fields, including input capacity and claimed speed, are marked “Not tested.” The page therefore confirms that an independent review exists without giving enough visible results to summarise its findings on print quality, reliability or running cost.

Price and availability
The CHOICE listing displayed AUD $759 when accessed in 2026. Its update date was not established, so treat that figure as a snapshot. Retailer prices, stock and bundle offers for the GX6560 change over time and differ between states and between Australia and New Zealand. Check the price and stock directly before you buy.

- Confirm the variant: check the model name on Canon’s regional product page, and make sure it matches the box and listing you are buying.
- Confirm ink compatibility: check that the bottle SKUs you plan to buy, GI-66BK and the GI-66 colour bottles, are listed for your model variant and region.
- Confirm paper handling: find the input paper capacity and supported media sizes in the Canon manual, since the reviewed sources do not state them.
- Measure the space: use the dimensions as a guide, and confirm orientation and clearance on Canon’s or the seller’s listing.

Verdict
The GX6560 is a credible shortlist candidate for a small office or home office with a steady black-text workload, a shared network need and a budget for bottle-fed ink. Its claimed figures, listed connections and ink compatibility are consistent across the Canon and reseller sources reviewed. Whether it delivers those results in your environment, and whether its running cost beats the alternatives, can only be confirmed with current local prices, a documented test of your own print mix, and a look at independent results.
Canon’s support, consumables and specification sources are useful for confirming the model, but they are not a substitute for measured performance. Treat the figures in this article as the starting point for your own checks, not as a finished verdict.
