The Canon EOS Rebel T3i—also called the EOS 600D—takes SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards, records Full HD video, uses an LP-E8 battery, and accepts Canon EF and EF-S lenses. The practical limits are worth knowing: Canon recommends at least an SD Speed Class 6 card for movies, a clip stops at 4 GB or 29 minutes 59 seconds, and battery-life figures are estimates under CIPA test conditions.
What memory card does a Canon T3i take?
The T3i accepts SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards. The camera does not include a card; Canon lists it as a separate purchase. Canon’s compatibility guidance does not list CF Type I/II, MMC, or MMCplus as supported for this model. See Canon’s compatible-memory-card guidance.
What card should I use for video?
Canon advises using a large-capacity SD card rated SD Speed Class 6 or higher for movie recording. That is the manufacturer’s documented guidance, not a guarantee that every card meeting the rating will perform identically in every condition. A card that writes too slowly may not record movies smoothly; a card that reads too slowly can cause playback problems.

These are approximate manufacturer figures, not exact file-size guarantees. Choose capacity with your planned recording time in mind.

Can a Canon Rebel T3i shoot video?
Yes. The T3i records Full HD, HD, and standard-definition video. Canon specifies H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video in MOV files with Linear PCM audio. Its frame-rate labels correspond to 29.97 fps (30p), 25.00 fps (25p), 23.976 fps (24p), 59.94 fps (60p), and 50.00 fps (50p). The camera has a built-in monaural microphone and a 3.5 mm stereo external-microphone input. Details are in Canon Asia’s T3i/600D specifications.
| Resolution | Available frame rates |
|---|---|
| 1920×1080 (Full HD) | 30p, 25p, 24p |
| 1280×720 (HD) | 60p, 50p |
| 640×480 (SD) | 30p, 25p |
How long can one T3i video clip be?
A single movie clip stops when it reaches 4 GB. The camera can begin a new clip afterward, but any one clip is limited to 29 minutes 59 seconds even if it has not reached 4 GB. Canon also cautions that rising internal temperature may stop recording earlier. These are per-clip limits, not a promise of uninterrupted recording for the same duration in every situation; consult Canon Singapore’s battery-life and maximum movie-time guidance.

How long does the T3i battery last?
The camera uses one rechargeable LP-E8 lithium-ion battery pack, rated at 7.2 V and 1120 mAh. Canon’s CIPA-based estimates below are for a fully charged battery. Actual results vary with conditions and use.
Recommended Free Tools
| Temperature and shooting method | No flash | Flash on 50% of shots |
|---|---|---|
| 23°C, viewfinder | About 550 shots | About 440 shots |
| 23°C, Live View | About 200 shots | About 180 shots |
| 0°C, viewfinder | About 470 shots | About 400 shots |
| 0°C, Live View | About 170 shots | About 150 shots |
Canon Singapore publishes these approximate CIPA-based figures; its page does not state a publication date. They are standardized estimates, not guaranteed personal-use shot counts. Canon says prolonged half-pressing, autofocus use, frequent LCD use, the attached lens, and lens image stabilization can reduce the number of shots.

- CONTENT MANAGEMENT, SIMPLIFIED. Back up, organize, and transfer everything easily with the Sandisk Memory Zone desktop app,(7) whether you use an SD card slot or a card reader.
How long can it record movies on one charge?
Canon estimates about 1 hour 40 minutes of movie shooting with a fully charged LP-E8 at 23°C, or about 1 hour 20 minutes at 0°C. Screen use, autofocus, lens operation, image stabilization, temperature, and shooting behavior can reduce real-world endurance. Movie battery endurance is separate from the still-shot estimates above.
Canon’s EOS Rebel T3i / EOS 600D support guidance says, “Use of genuine Canon accessories is recommended.” That recommendation is from Canon; it is not a guarantee that every third-party battery will have the same capacity or performance.

What lenses fit a Canon Rebel T3i?
Canon lists EF lenses, including EF-S lenses, as compatible with the T3i. Canon gives an approximately 1.6× factor for 35mm-equivalent focal length: this describes the field of view, not a change to the focal length printed on the lens. For example, a lens’s marked focal length stays the same; its framing on the T3i corresponds approximately to 1.6 times that focal length on a 35mm-format camera.
Canon’s compatibility statement covers its EF and EF-S lens families. For a third-party lens, confirm compatibility with that lens’s manufacturer, particularly if the camera reports an error or the lens does not operate as expected. Canon’s specification page directs owners with problems using non-Canon lenses to consult the lens maker.
