Yes, YouTube is worth considering in cybersecurity marketing—but current evidence does not show that it is uniquely effective for CISOs, managed security providers, or small and midsize businesses. Broad B2B research indicates that YouTube can influence purchase journeys, while a separate survey finds that managed providers are a meaningful cybersecurity buying channel for SMBs in four markets. Neither finding proves that those specific buyers use YouTube to choose a vendor.
What the evidence says about YouTube and B2B buyers
Think with Google reported in May 2024 that Gartner found 65% of B2B buyers were influenced by YouTube during a recent purchase decision. This is Google’s summary of Gartner research; the underlying report details are not provided in the article, so the figure should be treated as broad B2B evidence rather than a cybersecurity-specific result. Read Think with Google’s B2B marketing article.
The same article attributes two further findings to Google and Bain research: B2B buying committees average 17 cross-functional stakeholders, and 92% of buyers already have a preferred-vendor shortlist before they begin the buying process. These figures suggest a reason to build familiarity and answer questions before procurement starts. They do not establish that YouTube outperforms other channels or that every committee member watches a given campaign.
What this means for CISOs, MSSPs, and SMBs
CISOs and security decision-makers
Security leaders may need material that helps them assess risk, governance, operational resilience, and the business consequences of a security decision. YouTube can host explainers or demonstrations that address those questions, but the available evidence does not quantify YouTube’s influence on CISO decisions. ISMG’s 2025 CISO Engagement and Decision Drivers Study landing page describes cybersecurity content research without publishing a YouTube-specific finding. See the ISMG study page.

MSSPs and other managed security providers
For a managed security provider, video can explain what a service includes, how onboarding works, or how a provider approaches a common security problem. That is a practical content strategy, not a measured finding that MSSPs acquire customers through YouTube. Providers should test whether their intended audience watches and responds to these videos rather than treating the broad B2B statistic as proof.
SMBs buying cybersecurity
Analysys Mason’s 2025 survey found that over a third of surveyed SMBs had purchased cybersecurity solutions from managed service providers. The survey covered Germany, Singapore, the UK, and the U.S.; the channel question had 1,215 respondents. This establishes the relevance of managed providers as a purchase channel in those surveyed markets, not YouTube’s role in selecting one. Read the Analysys Mason SMB cybersecurity report.

How to use video across the buyer journey
Rather than treating YouTube as a stand-alone lead source, give each video a clear job in the broader journey. Early content can introduce a problem or explain a security concept; more detailed videos can answer questions buyers raise while evaluating options. Make the next step appropriate to the viewer’s level of interest, such as viewing a technical explanation or contacting the provider.

A 2026 Think with Google article reports that 87% of surveyed U.S. viewers said YouTube introduces them to new things they would not have found on their own. - Education: Use longer explainers or demonstrations when a question needs context, a workflow, or a visible product walkthrough. Prioritize specific buyer questions over general claims about security.
- Credibility: Consider a specialist or creator partnership only when the person has a genuine fit with the audience and subject. A large following alone does not show that the creator can reach security decision-makers.
- Conversion: Match the call to action to the viewer’s likely readiness, and track qualified responses rather than relying on views alone.
Google describes several YouTube ad formats and creator partnership options in its guidance for brands. Availability and campaign suitability depend on the selected format and setup. See Google’s overview of YouTube brand options.

How to evaluate YouTube against other channels
There is no audience-specific comparison in the cited evidence establishing YouTube as the best channel for CISOs, MSSPs, or SMB cybersecurity buyers. Compare it with the channels you already use against the same business objective:
- Audience fit: Are the intended buyers actually consuming this kind of content?
- Funnel role: Is the campaign meant to build awareness, explain a complex offer, generate qualified demand, or support conversion?
- Creative effort: Does the likely value justify the time and production work required for video?
- Attribution timing: Can you account for people who watch before they later visit your site or speak with sales?
- Business outcomes: Does the channel contribute to qualified opportunities and revenue on a basis that is useful for your business?
Choose the success measures before launch. Interpret them over an appropriate period: conversion delays and day-to-day volatility can make a single day’s results misleading. Google’s YouTube Performance Four guidance recommends practices for creative, audience and conversion setup, and performance evaluation. Google reports that advertisers adopting at least three of its four recommended practices saw, on average, over 40% more conversions and 30% higher conversion value. Those are platform-reported results, not an independent guarantee or forecast for a particular cybersecurity advertiser. Read Google Ads’ YouTube Performance Four guidance.

Think with Google also reports that a Google/Kantar U.S. study, fielded December 10, 2025–January 12, 2026, found that 87% of surveyed viewers said YouTube introduces them to things they would not have found on their own. YouTube VP of Ads Marketing Anne Marie Nelson-Bogle described the study this way: “Viewers rank YouTube as the No. 1 platform they turn to when they want to research or make a decision about a brand, product, or service.” These are platform-published findings about U.S. viewers broadly, not evidence about cybersecurity purchasing or the three audiences in this article.

Quick Recap
A practical starting plan
- Pick one audience and one question. Do not combine executive risk concerns, an MSSP’s service explanation, and an SMB’s buying decision into one undifferentiated message.
- Choose a format for the job. Try a short discovery video, a detailed explainer, or a demonstration according to what the audience needs to understand.
- Set up measurement before publishing or advertising. Define the desired action and how your team will identify a qualified response.
- Review performance over a suitable interval. Account for conversion lag and volatility; avoid judging the campaign on one day’s results.
- Compare with other channels using the same measures. Keep investing only where audience fit and business outcomes support it.
