Possibly—but a Samsung TV’s age alone cannot tell you whether Netflix will work. Netflix warns that its service may no longer be available on some TVs and streaming devices made before 2015, but that is not a cutoff for every Samsung TV. Check the app on your set, update its software if needed, and ask Samsung about support for the exact model and region before replacing the TV.
How to check whether Netflix works on your Samsung TV
- Look for the Netflix app. Check the TV’s Home screen or the Samsung menu available on your model. Depending on the interface, you may need to open Internet@TV, Internet/Smart Hub, or press the Smart Hub button. Netflix documents these different setup routes in its Samsung TV instructions.
- If you find the app, open it and sign in. If playback works, the TV can currently access Netflix. That does not guarantee support for every picture format; Ultra HD and HDR have additional requirements.
- If the app is missing, check for a TV software update. Use the update option in the TV’s settings or system menu, following the instructions for your specific model.
- If the app is still missing, contact Samsung. Give Samsung the complete model number and country where the TV is being used. Ask whether Netflix is available for that model and region, and how to find or install it. Netflix directs users to the device manufacturer to confirm app availability.
Netflix’s supported-device guidance says the service may no longer be available on some TVs and TV streaming devices made before 2015. It does not establish a universal Samsung cutoff or mean every older set has lost access.
What to do if Samsung confirms the app is unavailable
You do not necessarily need to replace a TV just because its built-in Netflix app is unavailable. One alternative is to connect a separate Netflix-supported streaming device, provided the TV has an input compatible with that device. Netflix lists Amazon Fire TV/Stick among its TV streaming-device families; check the specific device’s requirements and support in your country before buying. Its guidance for finding the Netflix app also advises trying another supported device when the manufacturer confirms the app is unavailable.

Does Netflix work mean you can watch in Ultra HD or HDR?
No. App access and premium picture formats are separate compatibility questions. For Netflix Ultra HD on Samsung, Netflix specifies a qualifying plan, a 2015-or-newer Ultra HD TV with a compatible Netflix app capable of streaming Ultra HD at 60 Hz, a steady internet connection of at least 15 Mbps, and streaming quality set to Auto or High. The 2015 date and 15 Mbps figure apply to these stated Ultra HD requirements—not to basic Netflix access on every Samsung TV. HDR has separate compatibility requirements. If Netflix opens but the picture quality is lower than expected, check the TV’s resolution and HDR capabilities, your Netflix plan, connection speed, and streaming quality setting. A streaming device should not be assumed to add Ultra HD or HDR support that the TV itself lacks.
What to have ready when checking a specific TV
- The full Samsung model number, usually shown in the TV’s settings or on its product label.
- The country where the TV is being used. Netflix notes that some older devices may be restricted to the country where they were purchased.
- Whether the Netflix app appears, whether the TV software is current, and—if you are considering a streaming device—the TV input and device requirements.
Netflix and Samsung support can use the model and region to give a more specific answer than the TV’s age alone.
