No. Java Edition mods do not run as Java mods in Bedrock Edition. The two editions use different systems and content formats. To customize Bedrock, use Bedrock add-ons—such as resource packs and behavior packs—or content from the Minecraft Marketplace.
Why Java mods do not work in Bedrock
Java Edition and Bedrock Edition are separate versions of Minecraft, not interchangeable launchers for the same mod files. Microsoft’s technical documentation describes differences in their world storage and content systems: Bedrock uses LevelDB for world storage, while Java uses Anvil. Their resource and behavior pack systems also differ. A Java mod therefore cannot be made compatible with Bedrock simply by copying it into a folder or changing a setting.

Minecraft’s edition comparison distinguishes Java’s mod ecosystem from Bedrock’s add-ons and Marketplace content. Availability also depends on the device: Java Edition is for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs; Bedrock is available across PC, console, and mobile platforms. Content made for one edition or platform should not be assumed to work on another.
What to use on Bedrock instead
Look for an add-on explicitly made for Bedrock Edition. Add-ons can include resource packs, which change how a world looks, behavior packs, which change how entities or gameplay behave, or a combination of both. Minecraft’s Creator FAQ says Bedrock add-ons can modify mobs, blocks, and items, and Minecraft Help describes adding custom blocks, items, mobs, recipes, and other game content to new or existing Bedrock worlds.

The Minecraft Marketplace is an official place to find Bedrock content. Add-ons are also available outside the Marketplace, but those downloads are not thereby official or reviewed by Mojang. Check the creator’s compatibility details and make sure the content supports your edition and device.
How to activate a Bedrock add-on
Minecraft Help’s current instructions provide an in-game route for activating add-ons in a world. Menu names can vary with the installed version, so follow the labels shown in your game.

- For a new world, start creating it and open its Resource Packs or Behavior Packs settings.
- For an existing world, open that world’s settings and go to Resource Packs or Behavior Packs.
- Find the add-on in the available list, activate it, and apply the changes before entering the world.
For a Realm, use the separate Realm activation flow described in Minecraft Help’s add-on activation guide. The guide also explains activation for regular worlds.
What to know before installing Java mods
Java mods are third-party software, not official Minecraft features. Minecraft Help says Mojang Studios does not create, review, or endorse them, and warns that they can cause the game to malfunction or become unplayable. Use a mod only when it is explicitly intended for your Java Edition version, and follow its creator’s installation and compatibility instructions. A Java mod will not become a Bedrock add-on through that process.
