“pH sensor for use in the body” can mean several different things. Skin analyzers measure the skin’s surface; test strips and meters measure a collected fluid; and experimental wearables have measured sweat, urine, or tears. Those results are not measurements of blood pH or a general reading of internal-body pH. The available evidence here does not establish a consumer device for continuously measuring internal pH.
First, identify what the sensor measures
A device’s intended measurement target matters more than the word “body” in its description. A sensor touching skin does not necessarily measure anything beneath the skin, and a wearable sampling sweat does not measure blood pH.
- Skin surface: An analyzer placed against skin measures surface pH.
- Secreted fluid: A wearable or test can measure a specific fluid, such as sweat, urine, or tears.
- Collected sample: A meter can test fluid after it has been collected, typically in a controlled setting.
- Internal tissue or blood: This is a distinct measurement target. The sources described here do not establish a consumer wearable that provides continuous internal-body pH measurements.
Do not treat skin, sweat, urine, or tear pH as interchangeable with blood pH or as a general indicator of the body’s internal pH.
What wearable pH research has demonstrated
Flexible sensors for specific fluids
A 2016 research platform demonstrated flexible electrochemical sensors for calcium and pH in sweat, urine, and tears, with a flexible printed circuit board and wireless communication to a phone. Its pH sensor used polyaniline and measured an electrochemical potential against a reference electrode. This is evidence of a research implementation, not proof of a broadly available consumer diagnostic or an established medical product. Read the 2016 study.

- 【Calibration Operation Guide】 Press and hold the CAL button for 5 seconds to access calibration mode. Complete calibration by selecting the standard powders in this exact order: 6.86 → 4 → 9.18. Please refer to our full calibration instructions and tutorial video for detailed steps.
- 【Pre-Calibrated for Immediate Use】The pH meter is pre-calibrated before shipment and can be used directly out of the box. For best accuracy, readings may vary slightly depending on water conditions and environment.
- 【Easy Operation】Simply turn on the device, immerse the probe into the solution, gently stir, and wait for the reading to stabilize before recording the result.
- 【Compact & Portable Design】Pocket-size design allows easy carrying for testing anytime, anywhere. Suitable for home, travel, and outdoor use.
- 【Multi-Purpose Water Testing】Ideal for drinking water, swimming pools, aquariums, hydroponics, RO systems, and other environments requiring pH monitoring.
The on-body test was small and controlled
The study’s on-body sweat assessment involved five healthy men aged 20–30. Each cycled for 30 minutes: a five-minute ramp-up, 20 minutes at 150 W, and a five-minute cool-down. The researchers collected sweat every five minutes for comparison with laboratory analysis. That protocol demonstrates a proof of concept under specific exercise conditions; it does not establish performance across different populations, ordinary daily conditions, or clinical decisions. Study details.
Example comparisons are not a clinical accuracy claim
The paper reported example sensor and commercial-meter readings of 4.4 and 4.5, 7.2 and 7.3, and 8.1 and 8.1 for sweat; for urine, examples were 7.6 and 7.8, 6.3 and 6.5, and 6.4 and 6.6. These paired examples do not establish a validated clinical range, diagnostic performance, or general accuracy across users and conditions. The comparator was a Horiba LAQUA Twin pH meter B-713 used on samples. Study and comparator details.

- Food pH Meter for Canning: When canning season arrives, use Food pH tester to test the pH value of meat, fruits, and vegetables to help you identify which foods are suitable for water bath canning (high acid 4.6 pH). It is especially important to measure the pH of canned foods such as tomato sauce and hot sauce salsa again before canning for food safety
- Food pH Meter for Sourdough Starter: For home bakers and chefs who like to make sourdough bread, this digital pH meter with Bluetooth function can help you monitor and record whether the pH value of yeast is within the optimal range (3.5 to 5 pH) at any time. Whether baking sourdough bread, making regular bread and pizza dough, use this pH tester you can easily measure the pH value
- Water pH Meter for Brewing and Fermentation: This pH meter has a wide range of applications, such as fermenting foods, making homemade yogurt, craft beer, kombucha, cider brewing, homemade wine, canning pickles, making mozzarella cheese, jams, jellies, chutneys, sausages, sauces, and skin care products. It is a Essential Tool for food processing
- Smart Food pH Tester: This pH meter can be connected to the YINMIK app via Bluetooth. The pH date can be saved on the app while measuring and you can view historical data at any time. At the same time, the pH reader can be set to automatically save data, and can automatically store up to 1,000 data. This pH Test kit is a very convenient tool for people who need to record data
- Easy to Use pH Meter: Smart pH Meter is calibrated before shipment, ready to use out of box, also coming with pH 7.00 and pH4.00 calibration solution, help you easily calibrate the pH level at any time; With backlight display, even in the dim, you also can get the pH readings; With 30ml pH probe protective solution, Always keep probe moist, extend the service lifer of pH meter, With automatic shutdown function
How skin analyzers and sample meters differ
Skin-surface analyzers
The Howskin IC-HSP001 manual describes using its pH sensor on human skin and cautions that the device body, apart from the sensor, should be kept away from liquid. On that evidence, it should be treated as a skin-surface analyzer—not an internal sensor or a medical diagnostic. Its current retail availability and any broader medical claims are not established here. Howskin product information.

A conventional pH meter can measure a sample that has been collected for testing. The Horiba LAQUA Twin B-713 in the 2016 study illustrates this approach for sweat and urine samples. Using a meter on a sample does not make it suitable for insertion into or attachment to the body. Study details.

Urine indicators
FDA’s classification for a urinary pH dye-indicator describes a non-quantitative urine test system. It concerns urine testing, not continuous sensing inside the body. FDA classification, 21 CFR 862.1460.

FDA has separately warned about smartwatches and rings that claim to measure blood glucose without piercing the skin. That warning concerned glucose claims, not pH devices, so it should not be read as a ruling on pH sensors. FDA safety communication on glucose-measuring smartwatch and ring claims.
