Do not assume a separate Makita battery adapter is safe with a Mellif tool. Some Mellif tools are listed as compatible with Makita 18V batteries, which may mean they accept the battery directly. That is different from approval for a third-party adapter. Check the exact tool, battery and adapter instructions before connecting them; the available manufacturer information does not establish a safe adapter for an unspecified combination.
First check whether the Mellif tool accepts Makita batteries directly
Mellif’s product collection lists some tools as compatible with Makita 18V batteries. That supports checking the listing for your exact tool model; it does not mean every Mellif tool accepts Makita batteries, nor does it certify a separate adapter. If the model instructions specify direct Makita 18V compatibility, follow that configuration and do not add an adapter unless the instructions explicitly require one.
Mellif’s FAQ says its green batteries are for tools compatible with Makita batteries and that battery colors are not interchangeable. Color is not a reliable compatibility test: confirm the precise tool and battery model in the product documentation.

Why a third-party adapter needs extra caution
Makita Power Tools (HK) Limited’s safety statement, dated January 2, 2026, says genuine Makita lithium-ion batteries are designed for Makita cordless tools and corresponding chargers, and warns against use with non-approved tools, adapters, modified devices or equipment. The statement is from Makita’s Hong Kong subsidiary; it says the Chinese original controls if it differs from the English translation. Read Makita Power Tools (HK) Limited’s safety statement.

Makita U.S.A. similarly advises using only genuine Makita batteries and chargers in Makita tools. It warns that non-genuine or altered batteries may defeat electronic communication, void warranty and UL/CSA approval, and create fire or injury risks. Its guidance concerns Makita tools and should not be read as approval of a cross-brand setup. Read Makita U.S.A.’s battery guidance.
A snug fit, a matching voltage label, a seller’s claim or an online anecdote does not show that an adapter is manufacturer-approved or that protective features will work as intended. Makita’s ADP10 manual instructs users to read the instructions and caution markings for the adapter, battery, charger and product using the battery. That manual applies to the Makita ADP10; it is not approval for an unknown adapter. Read the Makita ADP10 manual.

Compare the two practical options

Before connecting anything
- Identify every model. Write down the Mellif tool model, Makita battery model and, if applicable, the adapter model. A broad “Makita compatible” category is not proof that a particular combination is supported.
- Check the exact tool listing and manuals. Use the direct battery configuration only if Mellif explicitly lists it for that model. If compatibility depends on a separate adapter, look for explicit manufacturer instructions covering that adapter and pairing.
- Keep charging requirements separate. Do not charge one brand’s battery on another brand’s charger unless the exact manufacturer instructions say it is compatible. Mellif says Mellif batteries must be charged with the matching Mellif charger; its listed 18V replacement charger cannot charge original Makita batteries. - Inspect before use. Do not connect a battery, tool or adapter with damaged contacts or other visible damage. Stop if anything behaves abnormally; do not modify the parts to force a fit. Consult the model-specific manual or manufacturer service channel. Makita U.S.A. directs users with battery-performance questions to a factory or authorized service center.
What cannot be concluded without the model numbers
Without the exact Mellif tool, Makita battery and proposed adapter models, it is not possible to establish whether the parts fit, perform correctly, retain their protection features or affect warranty coverage in your jurisdiction. The available sources also do not establish an independent safety test or comparative adapter test for this pairing. Treat any compatibility decision as model-specific, and get confirmation from the relevant manufacturer before relying on a separate adapter.
