Usually, no—because a Grok or xAI email address is documented as an account sign-in identity, not as a separate mailbox. The official documentation reviewed does not describe a Grok-hosted inbox or provide IMAP, POP, or SMTP settings that you could enter in another email app. If you want Grok to work with email, connect an existing Gmail or Outlook mailbox through Grok’s connectors. If you want Grok’s features while reading Outlook, use the Grok for Outlook Microsoft 365 add-in instead.
First, separate a sign-in email from an email mailbox
The phrase “Grok email address” can refer to two different things:
- Your xAI account email: the address you use to create, access, or recover a Grok account.
- A hosted mailbox: an inbox with mail servers that other apps can access using IMAP, POP, or SMTP.
xAI’s account FAQ describes email as a sign-in method and explains that you can update or add a sign-in email in xAI Accounts. That describes account identity and authentication; it does not say that xAI gives you an inbox at that address. See the official Grok FAQ for the account-management instructions.

A mailbox is a different service. To add one to Apple Mail, Thunderbird, a desktop client, or another webmail interface, you normally need a provider’s incoming and outgoing server names, ports, encryption requirements, and password or app-password process. The official Grok material reviewed does not publish those details for a Grok mailbox.

What each email-related Grok use case actually supports

These routes solve different problems. Changing the email on your xAI account does not create a mailbox, and connecting Gmail or Outlook does not turn either service into a Grok address.
If you mean the email address used to sign in to Grok
What that address is for
xAI documents the address associated with your account as a way to sign in. It can identify your account, receive account-related messages, and provide a recovery route. It is not documented as an address at which you can receive ordinary correspondence through a Grok inbox.
If you have lost access to the original address, the FAQ says you can sign in with a new personal email, Google account, or X account and link it through xAI Accounts. That is account-recovery and account-linking guidance, not a mail-client setup procedure.
How to change or add a sign-in email
- Open the xAI account-management area referenced in the Grok FAQ.
- Sign in using an available existing method, such as your current email, Google account, or X account.
- Use the account settings for sign-in email or linked sign-in methods.
- Add or update the personal email you want to use, then complete any verification that xAI requests.
- Test the new method before removing an old one. Keep at least one working sign-in route so you do not lock yourself out.
The exact labels can change as xAI updates its account pages, so follow the current labels shown in your account rather than looking for IMAP, POP, or SMTP fields. Those fields belong to mailbox configuration, which the reviewed documentation does not provide for Grok.
If you mean a Grok-hosted mailbox that another app can open
The official pages reviewed describe Grok as an assistant on the web and in mobile apps, with connectors that let it reach external tools and data. They do not identify a Grok mail-hosting service, a mailbox product, or server settings for an external mail client. The precise conclusion is therefore: the official documentation reviewed does not describe a Grok mailbox that you can add to another email app.

That wording matters. It reflects what xAI currently documents; it is not a claim that xAI could never introduce a mail service. If xAI launches one, you would need to use the provider’s then-current setup instructions and authentication requirements.
Why ordinary mail-app setup instructions do not apply
Adding an account manually in a mail app requires all of the following:

- Incoming-server details, usually IMAP or POP.
- Outgoing-server details, usually SMTP.
- Ports, encryption settings, and an authentication method.
- A password, app password, or OAuth flow accepted by that mail provider.
None of those Grok mailbox details are supplied in the cited xAI documentation. Do not guess server names, ports, or passwords based on your xAI sign-in address. A sign-in identity alone cannot be configured as a working mailbox.
Use an existing Gmail or Outlook inbox through Grok
What connectors do
xAI says, “Connectors are available to all Grok users and let Grok access your external tools and data sources directly within a conversation.” The connectors catalog lists Gmail and Outlook Mail among the built-in options. The connection is made to your existing provider account through OAuth, rather than by creating a new Grok address.
Typical connection flow
- Open Grok and start or open a conversation in which you need email information.
- Open the tools, connectors, or connected-services area. The precise control name may vary by Grok interface and release.
- Select the Gmail or Outlook Mail connector that matches the mailbox you already use.
- Choose the provider’s sign-in button and complete the provider’s OAuth authentication in the window that opens.
- Review the permissions screen carefully. Grant only the access needed for the task, then approve the connection.
- Return to Grok and ask for the specific message search, summary, or other supported action. Grok is accessing the connected mailbox; it is not sending mail from a new Grok-hosted account.
OAuth is important here because the provider controls authentication and authorization. You do not paste a Gmail or Microsoft password into a guessed Grok mail-server form.

Outlook permissions and removal
The Outlook Mail & Calendar Connector documentation explains that the connector accesses a Microsoft mailbox after a separate OAuth sign-in and permission grant. It also documents disconnecting the connector and revoking access through your Microsoft account.
To stop the connection, first use Grok’s connector controls to disconnect it. Then check your Microsoft account’s connected applications or consent settings and revoke the Grok permission there if you want the authorization removed at the provider level as well. Disconnecting prevents future connector use from Grok; revocation is the provider-side control that invalidates the grant.
What a connector cannot do
- It does not give you a new address ending in a Grok or xAI domain.
- It does not make Gmail or Outlook available through IMAP settings supplied by Grok.
- It does not replace your mailbox provider’s retention, spam, sharing, or administrator policies.
- It does not automatically authorize every mailbox you own; each account and permission grant is separate.
Use Grok while working in Outlook
Grok for Outlook is a Microsoft 365 add-in that works alongside an existing Outlook mailbox. The product page presents it as an Outlook-integrated experience, not as a standalone Grok email service.
xAI’s announcement dated July 21, 2026 said the add-in was available to paid X and SuperGrok users at the time of announcement. Eligibility, supported Microsoft 365 environments, administrator approval, and regional availability can change, so check the current product page and your organization’s Microsoft 365 policies before relying on that availability.
What the add-in changes
The add-in places Grok features in the Outlook workflow, where you already read and manage your Microsoft mailbox. Your address remains the address issued by your Microsoft email service. Installing the add-in does not create a second inbox, migrate messages to xAI, or give another mail client a Grok account to configure.

What to check before installing
- Whether your Grok subscription and account type are eligible under the current terms.
- Whether your Microsoft 365 administrator allows users to install or run add-ins.
- Whether the Outlook version and account type you use are supported.
- What permissions the add-in requests and whether those permissions fit your organization’s security policy.
Security and privacy decisions
Check the consent screen
For a connector, read the OAuth consent screen before approving it. Confirm which mailbox, folders, calendar data, or actions are included. If the account is managed by an employer or school, the organization may apply additional consent and retention rules.
Use the smallest practical access
Connect only the account you need. Avoid linking a personal and work mailbox together merely for convenience. If a task can be completed with a single message or folder, do not assume that broader access is necessary.
Remove access when circumstances change
Disconnect unused connectors in Grok and revoke their provider-side authorization. Do the same when you change jobs, transfer an account, lose a device, or no longer trust an integration. For Outlook, the documented route includes both Grok’s disconnect control and Microsoft-side revocation.
Protect the sign-in identity separately
Your xAI sign-in email is an account credential, not a substitute for mailbox security. Use a strong, unique password where applicable, enable available multi-factor authentication, and keep a verified recovery method. Changing that address affects how you access Grok; it does not alter the security settings of a connected Gmail or Outlook account.

“My xAI email is rejected by my mail app.”
That is expected if you are entering a sign-in identity where a mailbox account is required. Check whether the address belongs to a real email provider with published IMAP or SMTP settings. If it is only your xAI sign-in address, use it for account access rather than manual mail-app setup.

“I want Grok to summarize messages from my inbox.”
Do not add a fictional Grok mail server. Open Grok’s connectors area, choose the Gmail or Outlook connector for the mailbox you already use, and complete the provider’s OAuth flow. If the connector is unavailable, your account, region, organization, or current product version may not support that route.
“I installed Grok for Outlook, but I expected a new email address.”
The add-in is an Outlook companion. Continue using your existing Outlook address and mailbox; the add-in adds Grok functionality inside that workflow.
“I connected Outlook and now want to undo it.”
Disconnect the Outlook connector in Grok, then open your Microsoft account’s connected-app or consent settings and revoke the authorization there. The two controls address the integration from different sides.

“I can no longer access the email used for Grok.”
Use another available sign-in method, such as a new personal email, Google account, or X account, and follow the linking or account-update guidance in the official FAQ. This recovery path is separate from connecting an inbox for message access.
Bottom line for each interpretation
- Sign-in email: usable for accessing and managing your xAI account, not documented as a mailbox for other email apps.
- Existing inbox: Gmail and Outlook can be connected to Grok through documented OAuth connectors.
- Outlook workflow: Grok for Outlook is an add-in beside your existing Microsoft mailbox, with availability and eligibility that should be checked currently.
Until xAI publishes a mailbox product and mail-server settings, treat any address associated with your Grok account as an account credential rather than an email account you can add to another client.
