No—not as an officially supported upgrade. Lenovo specifies 8 GB as the ThinkPad T410’s maximum memory across its two SO-DIMM slots. A reliable upgrade path is to install up to 8 GB total using compatible DDR3 modules; a 16 GB configuration is not established by the published specifications.
What Lenovo specifies for the T410
Lenovo’s detailed T410 specifications (2013) list two SO-DIMM slots, PC3-8500 non-parity DDR3 memory, a recommended speed of 1067 MHz, and supported module sizes of 1 GB, 2 GB, or 4 GB. The documented maximum is 8 GB total.
Lenovo also states that only a 64-bit operating system can support more than 3 GB of system memory. A 32-bit installation may not use all memory even when additional RAM is physically installed.

Why 16 GB is not a supported recommendation
The available product documentation does not establish that two 8 GB modules, or 16 GB total, work reliably in every T410. Kingston’s T410 compatibility listing also gives an 8 GB maximum for 64-bit systems. Individual online reports are not a dependable compatibility guarantee and do not override the manufacturer’s published limit.

Documentation also does not settle every edge case involving DDR3L-only modules, memory ranks, or chip density. Treat a 16 GB kit as unsupported rather than as an upgrade Lenovo guarantees.
How to reach the supported 8 GB maximum
First determine how your existing 4 GB is installed. It may be one 4 GB module or two 2 GB modules. The two-slot layout determines whether you need one replacement module or a matched pair.

If the laptop has one 4 GB module
Add a second compatible 4 GB SO-DIMM to reach 8 GB, provided the existing module matches the laptop’s requirements and the combination is accepted by the system.

Check the exact module before buying
- Confirm it is DDR3 SO-DIMM memory, not desktop DIMM memory.
- Prefer a module explicitly listed as compatible with the T410.
- Check voltage, speed, capacity, and rank details in the complete product listing.
- Do not assume that a listing for an 8 GB module proves that 16 GB total will work.
- Kingston’s examples include 4 GB, 204-pin, non-ECC, unbuffered modules at 1066 or 1333 MT/s; some displayed part numbers are discontinued, so verify current availability and specifications.
Installed memory is not always usable memory
The amount reported by Windows can be lower than the amount physically installed. Kingston notes that a 4 GB installation may appear as about 3.5 GB or less, depending on system configuration and memory allocated to hardware. A 64-bit operating system removes the principal 32-bit address-space restriction, but hardware reservations can still reduce the usable figure.
Installing or replacing the modules
For basic memory access, Lenovo’s removal instructions call for removing the battery, removing the access cover, releasing the SO-DIMM latches, and lifting the module out. Use the ThinkPad T410 Hardware Maintenance Manual for the complete procedure, especially if the slot you need is not accessible through the basic cover.

- Shut down the T410, disconnect its AC adapter, and remove the battery.
- Remove the memory access cover.
- Release the side latches and remove the existing module, or leave a compatible module installed if adding one.
- Insert the replacement SO-DIMM at an angle, then press it down until both latches lock.
- Reinstall the cover and battery, start the laptop, and check the detected capacity in the BIOS or operating system.
- If the system fails to boot, power down, reseat the modules, and test each module and slot separately.
What to do if 8 GB is not detected
- Verify that both modules are fully latched and that the contacts are correctly aligned.
- Confirm the modules are the correct DDR3 SO-DIMM type and capacity.
- Test one module at a time to identify a faulty module or slot.
- Check whether the operating system is 32-bit; it cannot fully use more than 3 GB.
- Use the laptop’s BIOS memory reading to distinguish a hardware-detection problem from an operating-system reporting issue.
Bottom line on a 16 GB kit
For a ThinkPad T410 currently using 4 GB, buy a compatible upgrade that brings the total to 8 GB at most—normally one additional 4 GB module or two replacement 4 GB modules, depending on the current arrangement. Do not describe 16 GB as a supported T410 configuration; the published Lenovo and Kingston limits are 8 GB.
