You can’t officially update a Galaxy S8 to One UI 7 or add Samsung’s Galaxy AI features through a software update. Samsung’s current One UI 7 compatibility guidance does not list the S8, and its Galaxy AI guidance requires One UI 6.1 for the described features—also not listed for the S8. You can still check for any update Samsung offers your specific phone, but that check won’t make it eligible for One UI 7.

Why the Galaxy S8 can’t get One UI 7 or Galaxy AI

Samsung’s One UI 7 device guidance lists supported Galaxy phones and tablets, including the Galaxy S21 series and Galaxy S24 series, but not the Galaxy S8. Samsung’s Galaxy AI support guidance says One UI 6.1 is required for the features described on that page; the S8 is not listed as a compatible device there either.

That means there is no official Samsung update procedure that turns an S8 into a One UI 7 or Galaxy AI device. The distinction matters: checking for updates can find software released for your particular phone, but it cannot add eligibility for a version Samsung does not list for it. Samsung’s instructions note that menu wording and available functions can vary by model, carrier, and network. Samsung’s One UI 7 and update guidance and its Galaxy AI compatibility guidance are the relevant references.

How to check for updates available to your Galaxy S8

Use the phone’s built-in update checker to see whether Samsung or your carrier offers an update for that specific device. The menu may use slightly different wording on some models.

#1 Best Overall
Samsung Galaxy S8+, 64GB, Midnight Black - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
  • Successfully passed a full diagnostic test which ensures like-new functionality and removal of any prior-user personal information.
  • Inspected and guaranteed to have minimal cosmetic damage, which is not noticeable when the device is held at arm's length.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a charger and charging cable that may be generic.
  • Fully Unlocked: Fully unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US-Cellular, Cricket, Metro, etc.), both domestically and internationally.
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Software update. On some devices, the menu may say System updates.
  3. Tap Download and install.
  4. If an update is offered, follow the prompts shown on the phone.

This process checks for updates offered to your phone; it does not install One UI 7 on an unsupported model. The exact software endpoint for an individual S8 cannot be determined from “Galaxy S8” alone. Model number, region, carrier, and the software already installed can affect what appears. To get model-specific guidance, note those details and consult Samsung support for your country.

What Samsung’s One UI 7 rollout tells you

Samsung announced on March 18, 2025, that its One UI 7 rollout would begin April 7, 2025, initially with the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, and Galaxy Z Flip6, then gradually expand to more Galaxy phones and tablets. Samsung’s announcement said the rollout would proceed gradually, and timing could vary by carrier. That launch announcement is historical rollout context, not a complete current compatibility list; use Samsung’s current support guidance to check a device.

If One UI 7 and Galaxy AI are priorities

Choose a device that Samsung lists as eligible for One UI 7, then verify support for the particular Galaxy AI features you want. Samsung’s current One UI 7 guidance includes the Galaxy S24 series, making it one supported replacement option—not a way to upgrade the S8.

Do not assume that every Galaxy AI feature works on every compatible phone. Samsung says availability and features may vary by device model and software version. Before buying, check the exact model and region with Samsung, and consider carrier update availability, device condition, remaining software support, and total cost. Current prices, stock, and a complete replacement-device ranking are not established here.
