Yes—you can uninstall the Alexa app from a phone or computer using that device’s app-removal controls. But removing the app does not erase Alexa history or disconnect an Echo from your Amazon account. Those are separate actions: turn off an Echo’s microphone, delete account history in Alexa Privacy, or deregister the Echo from Amazon, depending on what you want to stop or remove.

How do I remove the Alexa app from my phone or computer?
Uninstall it using the app-removal controls for the specific device. The exact menu differs by operating system and version, so there is no single reliable path for every phone or computer. Removing the app only removes its installation from that device; it does not remove an Echo from your account or clear Alexa data stored with Amazon.
How do I stop an Echo listening for Alexa?
Press the microphone enable/disable button on a supported Echo. Amazon says the button disconnects microphone power and turns on a red indicator. While the microphones are off, you cannot interact with Alexa by voice and the device cannot record and stream audio to the cloud. On supported models, presence detection is also disabled. This is a microphone control—not an app uninstall, history deletion, or device deregistration. Amazon’s Echo privacy guidance explains the control.
How do I delete Alexa voice history?
Review or delete specific activity
In the Alexa app or on an Echo Show, go to More > Alexa Privacy to review and delete voice recordings, transcripts, and typed requests. For voice history, Amazon’s automatic-deletion help page gives the path More > Alexa Privacy > Review Voice History. You can filter by date range, device, or profile, then select chats to delete. Stop saving future recordings
Amazon’s “Don’t save” setting prevents future voice recordings from being saved and deletes existing recordings after processing. Transcripts and typed requests are retained until they have been inactive for 30 days, then automatically deleted; linked Voice IDs are also deleted. This setting changes how account data is retained, not whether the Alexa app is installed or an Echo is registered.
Use a spoken deletion command if enabled
After enabling voice deletion commands in Alexa Privacy, you can ask Alexa to delete “what I just said,” “everything I said today,” or your entire voice history. Amazon says these commands are not supported for Alexa+ or on Amazon Kids-enabled devices. Details are in Amazon’s guidance on deleting voice history by voice.

Understand what deletion does not guarantee
Amazon says a deletion request starts a secure deletion process, and completion time varies. Requested data may still be used while processing. These controls do not necessarily delete data collected by third parties, such as a skill developer, or information stored outside Amazon’s cloud. Amazon’s privacy guidance describes these limits.
How do I remove an Echo from my Amazon account?
If you are selling, giving away, returning, or moving an Echo to another account, deregister it rather than just uninstalling the phone app. Sign in to Amazon, open Devices, select the Echo, and choose Deregister. Amazon says deregistration removes the device from the account and disconnects it from digital content and services. It temporarily loses access to the account, purchased content, and services; you can register it again with Amazon credentials. Follow Amazon’s device deregistration instructions.
