No: Amazon’s current support guidance says Sponsored ads on Echo Show devices cannot be turned off globally. You can swipe past an ad, hide a particular ad for 30 days, adjust interest-based ad preferences, and customize other home-screen content—but none of those controls is a universal Sponsored-ad off switch.
Sponsored ads are different from other home-screen suggestions
Amazon says Sponsored ads carry a Sponsored label. The company separately lists other home-screen content, including Amazon Recommendations, Your Frequent Orders, and Explore Local Places. These suggestions and Sponsored ads are not the same thing, so changing or disabling other home-screen content should not be expected to remove Sponsored ads. Amazon’s support page explains how it distinguishes ads from other suggested content.
What you can do about an ad on screen
Skip the ad currently showing
When a Sponsored ad appears, swipe from right to left across the screen to skip it. Amazon documents this as a way to move past an ad, not as a way to prevent future ads. Amazon’s guidance states: “You can’t turn off these ads, but you can skip an ad by swiping from right to the left on the screen.”
Hide an individual ad temporarily
Tap the information control at the lower-right corner of the display to hide a specific ad. Amazon says the hide lasts for 30 days; it applies to that ad, rather than permanently suppressing Sponsored ads across the device. If an ad is offensive or inappropriate, you can report it through the same controls. Amazon says that report also hides the ad for 30 days and initiates an investigation. See Amazon’s ad-management instructions.
Change interest-based ad preferences
If you want fewer ads targeted to your interests, Amazon provides preference controls in Alexa data settings. In the Alexa app, go to More → Alexa Privacy → Manage your Alexa Data. On an Echo Show, open Settings and choose Alexa Privacy or Privacy and Permissions, then Manage Your Alexa Data. Labels can vary by model. This changes interest-based targeting; it does not turn off ads. Amazon warns: “You may still see ads provided by Amazon that aren’t based on your interests.” Amazon’s support page describes the preference controls and this limitation.

What changing other display settings will—and won’t—do
Customize non-Sponsored home-screen content
You can adjust the content cards and suggestions shown on the home screen, but those controls concern non-Sponsored content. They do not amount to a global Sponsored-ad disable setting. Check the label on an item before changing settings: Amazon identifies Sponsored placements separately from suggestions such as recommendations and frequent orders. Amazon’s help page covers both categories.
Adaptive Content changes the display view, not documented ad controls
Adaptive Content changes what appears based on how far away you are from a supported Echo Show. Amazon says it is on by default and can be turned off on supported devices under Settings → Display & Appearance, by choosing Manual View or switching off Adaptive Content, depending on the device and software. The feature may not work when the camera is disabled or covered by its shutter. Amazon’s documentation does not say that disabling Adaptive Content removes Sponsored ads, so do not treat it as an ad-removal setting. Amazon’s Adaptive Content instructions describe the view setting.
Why some owners call the ads intrusive
Some Echo Show owners have objected to ads appearing amid content they expected to see. Tom’s Guide reported user accounts of full-screen Sponsored ads appearing between Photo Frame images and content cards for music, recipes, and news. Those are reported experiences, not evidence that every Echo Show behaves that way or that the placements occur at a particular frequency. Tom’s Guide’s October 11, 2025 report describes the accounts and community responses. Amazon forum search results also preserve questions such as “Nonstop ads on screen…How can you disable?” and “How do I setup my Echo Show to stop showing me advertisements?” These illustrate individual users’ concerns, not how widespread they are. Amazon’s forum search results
Tom’s Guide also described community suggestions such as using an Alexa routine to start Photo Frame or changing the device language to English/Canada. They are unverified, user-shared workarounds, not fixes Amazon guarantees; results may depend on model, software, or region. Amazon’s documented ad controls do not promise that either approach removes Sponsored ads.
What is—and isn’t—known about how widespread the complaints are
The available sources do not establish a representative share of Echo Show owners who see these ads, their frequency, or differences by model or country. Individual posts and reported experiences can explain why a placement frustrates someone, but they cannot show how common it is. Amazon’s current help guidance is clearer about the available controls: Sponsored ads cannot be turned off globally, while skipping, temporary hiding, and interest-based preference changes remain available.
