There is no automatic right to take November 19, 2026 off just because Grand Theft Auto VI launches. You can request paid annual leave for that date, and your employer must not unreasonably refuse the request. But the date needs to be agreed, so apply early and do not treat the day as approved until your employer confirms it.
Can you take the day off work for GTA 6?
Yes, you can ask to use annual leave for the launch, including for a single day or part of a day. Under the Fair Work Ombudsman’s general guidance, employees need to request annual leave before taking it, and an employer must not unreasonably refuse a request. The timing and length of leave are agreed between employee and employer; the guidance does not give employees an automatic right to a particular date.

How much paid annual leave can you use?
For non-casual employees, paid annual leave generally accrues continuously based on ordinary hours. The Fair Work Ombudsman’s 2026 guidance states that most non-casual employees accrue four weeks per year of service; qualifying shiftworkers may accrue five weeks, depending on the applicable award or registered agreement and its definition or conditions for shiftworkers. There is no minimum or maximum amount that can be taken at one time if you and your employer agree. That means a one-day request is possible, but the agreement requirement still applies. Awards and registered agreements may set rules about taking, granting or directing leave, so check the instrument that covers your job.
What if you are casual or do not have enough leave?
Casual employees do not receive paid annual leave. If you are casual, or your paid leave balance is insufficient, you can ask your employer about unpaid leave or another agreed arrangement. The sources cited here do not establish an automatic right to unpaid recreational leave, so do not assume the request will be approved.

How to request November 19 off
- Check your balance and workplace rules. Look at your award, registered agreement, employment contract and workplace leave policy for the request process and any relevant conditions.
- Apply as soon as practical. Ask for November 19, 2026 through your workplace’s usual procedure. State whether you want a full day or part-day.
- Wait for confirmation. A submitted request is not approval. Do not make plans on the assumption that you are off until your employer agrees.
- If refused, ask why. Review the reason alongside your applicable workplace terms. The general standard is that a refusal must be reasonable, but whether it is reasonable depends on the circumstances and applicable instrument.
- If paid leave is unavailable, discuss alternatives. You can ask about unpaid leave or another arrangement, without treating it as a guaranteed entitlement.
For help with a specific workplace issue, consult the Fair Work Ombudsman’s annual leave guidance. Individual circumstances and workplace instruments can affect how the general rules apply.

If a public holiday falls on a day you would normally work while you are taking paid annual leave, it is generally paid as a public holiday rather than deducted from your annual leave balance. Check your normal roster and the public-holiday calendar for your location; a public holiday does not itself establish that a requested day off has been approved.

What to know about GTA 6’s physical version
Rockstar’s customer-support information lists the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It says the physical box contains a download code, not a disc. For an imported code, check platform-account region compatibility: Rockstar says PlayStation codes have regional redemption rules, while Xbox codes are not region-locked.
