No manufacturer documentation reviewed here confirms that tape lets you shoot Instax Mini film in a Polaroid camera. The formats and loading systems are different, and “Polaroid camera” can mean several models with different film requirements. Treat a tape-based method as an unverified experiment, not a reliable or officially supported way to take a photo.
Why tape does not establish compatibility
Tape might hold or position something, but that alone does not show that a camera can accept, expose, eject, or develop a different brand’s film correctly. Fujifilm’s instructions explain how to load Instax Mini film into an Instax camera; Polaroid’s compatibility information specifies which Polaroid film works with particular Polaroid camera families. Neither source documents a tape-assisted Instax-to-Polaroid method.
That is an evidence limit, not proof that no hobbyist has ever tried it. The sources do not establish a safe, repeatable procedure or a success rate, so there is no substantiated set of tape placement or modification steps to recommend.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteInstax Mini and Polaroid film are different formats
The published dimensions show the formats are not the same size. They do not, by themselves, prove whether a particular improvised adaptation could work mechanically.
#1 Best Overall
- For Instax mini instant cameras
- 2.13 x 3.4 inches image size
- High speed ISO 800
- Excellent sharpness and vibrant color reproduction
- 20 exposures
| Film | Overall size | Image area | Pack size | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fujifilm Instax Mini | 54 × 86 mm | 46 × 62 mm | 10 prints | FUJIFILM US film specifications |
| Polaroid Color i-Type | 107 × 88 mm | 79 × 77 mm | 8 photos | Polaroid US product page |
These are manufacturers’ product specifications, not comparative test results. A tape arrangement cannot be judged from dimensions alone.
Instax Mini loading instructions warn against modifying the film
Fujifilm’s Instax Mini 9 user manual says to use only FUJIFILM INSTAX mini film. It directs users to align the yellow marks on the film pack and camera, then insert the pack straight. The manual also warns that opening the back before the pack is used exposes the unused sheets; they will turn white and become unusable. It says not to puncture, tear, or cut Instax Mini film.
Rank #2
- Package weight : 1.4 Lbs
- Country of origin : Japan
- Compatible with all Instax Mini style cameras
- Image area 1.81 x 2.44 inches
Those instructions concern using Instax film in the specified Instax camera, not repairing or adapting a Polaroid. They do, however, make it unwise to treat opening or physically altering an Instax pack as a harmless shortcut.
Check the exact Polaroid model before choosing film
Polaroid cameras do not all use one film type. For example, Polaroid lists i-Type film for the I-2, Flip, Now, Now+, OneStep 2, OneStep+, and Polaroid Lab, and says i-Type film is not compatible with vintage Polaroid cameras. Its 600 film listing specifies 600 cameras and several additional models; a 600 pack includes a battery to power vintage 600 cameras.
Rank #3
- Compatible to all Mini Instax camera
- Colored Films
- ISO Equivalent 800
Do not infer compatibility from the Polaroid name or appearance alone. Find the exact model printed on the camera, then check the film type Polaroid lists for it. Fujifilm’s current Instax Mini 13 specifications, for comparison, identify FUJIFILM instax mini instant film as the camera’s film and list a 62 × 46 mm picture size.

What to do instead
- Want to use your Polaroid: identify its exact model and use the Polaroid-listed film type for that model.
- Want to use Instax Mini film: use an Instax Mini camera that specifies Instax Mini film, and follow its loading instructions.
- Considering the tape experiment anyway: understand that official sources do not verify it, and avoid puncturing, tearing, or cutting the film or opening an unused Instax pack.
