No—not as a normal itemized list of searches. A Wi-Fi or internet bill is a billing document, not a browser-history report. Search terms are more likely to be saved in a browser or search account, while some routers and internet service providers may hold limited network records. Those are separate records, and what exists depends on the provider, router and settings, encryption, and location.

What a Wi-Fi bill does—and does not—show

A bill may summarize charges or internet usage according to the provider’s format, but the cited sources do not show a standard bill listing the words you typed into a search engine. Statement details vary, so check your provider’s current bill documentation rather than assuming every account shows the same information.

It helps to distinguish four things: a billing statement, a router activity log, an ISP’s internal network records, and the browser or search-account history saved on a device or online account. One is not automatically a copy of another.

Can the Wi-Fi owner or router show websites visited?

Sometimes a router can record network activity, but this depends on its model, configuration, and what logging features are enabled. A router log is not necessarily a list of search terms.

NETGEAR Nighthawk example

NETGEAR documents activity logs for specified Nighthawk Wi-Fi 5 models. The log can include a timestamp, source IP address, target website name or IP address, and action. NETGEAR says that up to 256 entries are stored; its instructions make logging conditional on keyword blocking. This is model-specific documentation, not a description of every router. See NETGEAR’s Nighthawk activity-log instructions, last updated July 7, 2025, and check the documentation for your exact model.

Xfinity Gateway example

An Xfinity employee support response says the Gateway does not store complete web history apart from security-alert cases, and directs users to the browser history on the device for complete browsing history. This response describes Xfinity Gateway behavior, not routers generally. See the Xfinity support response.

Can an ISP see what you searched?

An ISP’s network records are different from the bill a customer receives. In an October 2021 staff report based on practices investigated through 2019 information orders, the Federal Trade Commission wrote: “Even with encryption, many ISPs in our study continue to store the IP addresses that their customers access and thereby collect the domain names of the websites they visit.” The finding applies to the providers in that study, not every ISP or every customer. The FTC said the six providers represented about 98 percent of the U.S. mobile internet market; that figure describes the study’s scope, not all broadband providers or a current market measurement. Read the FTC staff report and its announcement of the findings.

Seeing a domain, such as a website’s address, is not the same as seeing the exact search phrase typed into a search box or the contents of an encrypted page. The report also notes that DNS over HTTPS can limit an ISP’s access to information about websites visited. Actual visibility depends on the services and settings in use. The FTC’s HTTPS guidance explains encryption’s role in protecting information sent to and from websites.

Where search terms are more likely to appear

Search history may be stored by the browser or by the search service, subject to sign-in, sync, privacy settings, and deletion behavior. For example, Microsoft says that signed-in Bing users can see search terms and clicked results in the Microsoft privacy dashboard: “If you’re signed in to Bing with your Microsoft account, your Bing search activity appears on the privacy dashboard.” See Microsoft Support’s explanation of Bing search history. Some copies of cleared history may remain in backups temporarily.

How to check the right record

  • To check saved searches: Look at the browser history on the device and the privacy or activity dashboard for the search account, if you were signed in.
  • To check a router: Identify its exact model and consult that model’s current documentation for activity-log features and requirements. Do not assume the router records a complete browsing history.
  • To check billing or ISP records: Review the provider’s current bill documentation and privacy information. Whether customers can access internal network records, how long records are retained, and which legal rules apply are provider- and location-specific.

What these records cannot establish universally

There is no single bill format or router behavior that applies to every provider and household. The evidence cited here also does not establish a universal ISP retention period or a universal right to view internal network records. For a specific answer, the relevant details are your ISP, router model and settings, search service, and jurisdiction.
