Yes—where it is available, Uber’s Women Drivers option lets an eligible woman rider request or prefer a woman driver. It is a matching preference inside the regular Uber app, not a separate women-only service, and Uber does not guarantee that every trip will be matched with a woman. Availability, pickup time and fare depend on your location, trip type, driver supply and current demand.
What Uber’s women-only option is called
Look for Women Drivers in the Uber rider app. Depending on your market, you may be able to:

- Choose Women Drivers when requesting an on-demand ride.
- Reserve a trip for later with a woman driver when the reservation option is offered.
- Save a Women Drivers preference in the app so Uber tries to increase the chance of matching you with a woman driver.
These choices affect matching within Uber’s normal ride service. They are not a guarantee of a woman driver or a promise that every passenger in the vehicle will be a woman.

- Open the current Uber rider app and enter your destination.
- Review the available ride options and select Women Drivers if it appears.
- Check the displayed pickup estimate and fare before confirming.
- For a future trip, choose the reservation flow and select Women Drivers if that combination is offered in your location.
- If you want Uber to try this automatically on future eligible trips, open the app’s settings and enable the Women Drivers preference where available.
Uber’s support information describes eligibility as limited to riders and drivers whose gender is set to Woman in the corresponding app. Uber says rider gender is determined using technology based on first name, while driver gender information is based on government-issued identification. That is Uber’s stated policy; availability and account treatment can vary by market.

Is a woman driver guaranteed?
No. Uber explicitly says it tries to honor rider and driver preferences but cannot guarantee that women will be taking trips with other women every time. A saved preference increases the likelihood of a match; it does not create a women-only dispatch pool.
What happens when no woman driver is available?
Driver supply changes by neighborhood, time and trip type. Uber says it has fewer women drivers on the platform than men drivers, so a Women Drivers request can take longer or may not be available. You can wait, reserve for a later time where offered, or accept a faster ride that does not match the preference.

On-demand, saved preference or reservation?
| Choice | Best for | What it changes | What it does not guarantee |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-demand Women Drivers request | A trip you need now | Uber searches for an available woman driver for that request. | A woman driver or a short wait. |
| Saved Women Drivers preference | Using the preference repeatedly | Raises the likelihood that eligible future requests are matched with a woman driver. | A woman driver on every trip. |
| Reserved Women Drivers trip | Planning ahead | Lets you request the preference in advance where reservations support it. | A guaranteed woman-driver match unless your local in-app terms expressly say so. |
Reservation gives you more planning time, but you should still read the confirmation details in your app. A faster alternative shown at booking may not satisfy the Women Drivers preference.
Where is Women Drivers available?
Uber announced a nationwide U.S. rollout on March 9, 2026, after expansion to 60 U.S. cities by the end of 2025. Uber also reported rider availability in cities across Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Brazil and Spain. The feature is not universal: Uber Help says availability varies by location and time, and the live app for your account is the authoritative check.

An earlier Uber Newsroom announcement described expansion to 26 U.S. cities. That was an earlier milestone, not the current U.S. scope after the 2026 rollout.
Can you request a woman driver for a teen?
In locations where both Uber Teen and Women Preferences are offered, a teen or the teen’s guardian can request a woman driver for an on-demand or reserved trip. This depends on both products being enabled in that city and on the account meeting Uber’s local requirements. If Women Drivers does not appear in the teen ride flow, the option is not currently available for that trip or account.

Guests and male passengers
Uber says the woman who requested the ride may bring guests. It also says a woman driver may cancel a Women Drivers trip if a male guest is brought along. If someone else will ride with you, check the driver and trip details and be prepared for the request not to be accepted under the preference.
Will a Women Drivers trip cost more?
Uber says it aims to price Women Drivers trips comparably with similar trips, but the actual fare can change with time, distance, driver availability and demand. Compare the fare displayed for your specific request rather than assuming a fixed surcharge or a fixed discount. A longer wait or a different ride type can also change the quoted amount.

What the feature does—and does not—say about safety
Women Drivers gives riders another matching choice. The available information does not establish that selecting it measurably reduces the risk of an individual trip, so it should not be treated as a safety guarantee or a replacement for Uber’s normal in-app safety tools and sensible travel precautions.
Why Uber introduced the preference
The idea has roots in markets where women’s transport preferences were especially important. A 2020 International Finance Corporation case study reported that 74 percent of prospective women drivers interviewed in Saudi Arabia said they would be interested in driving only women riders. That was a Saudi-specific finding from 2020, not a current estimate of Uber drivers worldwide.
The same case study describes Uber’s early Saudi approach as a driver-controlled Women Rider Preference and discusses a later Brazil pilot. That history explains the feature’s development, but it is different from today’s rider-facing Women Drivers choice offered in multiple markets.

- Have a fixed departure time? Reserve in advance where the app offers Women Drivers, then review the confirmation terms.
- Booking for a teen? Confirm that both Uber Teen and Women Preferences appear for your city and account.
- Bringing a male guest? Expect that the driver may cancel the Women Drivers request.
