Yes—some laptop Wi-Fi cards can be replaced, but whether yours can depends on its exact model and configuration. Check the manufacturer’s service manual and parts information before buying anything: a card that fits physically may still be blocked or unsupported by the laptop’s firmware.
How to tell whether your laptop’s Wi-Fi card is replaceable
Look up the full model and configuration identifier on the laptop manufacturer’s support site, then find its service manual and parts list. Search those documents for “WLAN card,” “wireless card,” or “Wi-Fi module.” The manual should show whether the module is a separate, removable component and how to access it.
For example, Dell’s Inspiron 15 3511 service manual describes a WLAN card in an M.2 slot that can be removed. That example applies to that model; it does not establish that all laptops have removable cards. If the manual does not document a separate module, do not assume one can be swapped.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Do not choose a card solely because it is labeled “M.2” or advertises a particular Wi-Fi generation. Confirm each of these details against the laptop manufacturer’s documentation:

- 【Wi-Fi 6E】With Intel Wi-Fi 6E technology network adapter provides strong performance and good compatibility, while reducing power consumption and improving service life.
- 【AX210 NGW Wireless LAN Card】Provides tri-band (6GHz, 5GHz and 2.4GHz) signal. Maximum speed up to 5374Mbps(2400Mbps @6GHz + 2400Mbps @5GHz + 574Mbps @2.4GHz).
- 【Bluetooth 5.3】Based on Bluetooth 5.2, Bluetooth 5.3 adds LE enhanced connection/Host set Controller key length function/LE channel hierarchy function. Make Bluetooth 5.3 lower latency, stronger anti-interference, improve battery life.
- 【Installation Requirements】For motherboards with Intel CPU and M.2 network slot, NGFF M2 2230 A/E key.Not supported CNVIo2 protocol M.2 slot and mini PCIe slot laptops.
- 【Compatible System】Support Windows 11/10 64-bit, WiFi and Bluetooth drivers need to be installed on the running PC (search "AX210NGW" from Intel website to download and install wifi and Bluetooth drivers).
- Supported part or module number: Use the manufacturer’s parts list or compatibility information for your exact configuration.
- Slot and physical fit: Confirm the card type and size the laptop accepts.
- Antenna connections: Check the number and type of connectors on the module and whether the laptop has matching antenna leads.
- Firmware restrictions: Some systems accept only specified modules. Lenovo’s ThinkStation Wi-Fi Solutions lists supported modules for the P3 Tiny and warns that its BIOS whitelist blocks other cards. This is a model-specific restriction, not a rule for every laptop.
- Feature and operating-system support: Verify that the laptop’s configuration and operating system support the features you want. Lenovo’s documentation includes system- and OS-specific notes, so a card’s advertised capabilities alone are not enough to establish support.
What replacing the card involves
The exact procedure depends on the laptop. Dell’s Inspiron 15 3511 example requires removing the base cover, disconnecting the antenna cables, removing the retaining bracket, and sliding the WLAN card out of its M.2 slot. Installation reverses the process. For that model, Dell identifies the white antenna lead as Main and the black lead as Auxiliary; do not apply that color mapping to another laptop unless its manual says the same.
Use the service manual for your own model for the disassembly order, screw and bracket details, and antenna markings. The small antenna connectors need careful handling. Lenovo’s S500 Hardware Maintenance Manual instructs readers to understand the computer’s safety information before attempting repair. Safety and battery procedures are model-specific; the manuals cited here do not establish one procedure for every laptop.

Choose between keeping the card, replacing it, or getting help
| Option | Best fit when | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Keep the current card | The existing connection is adequate, or a supported replacement is not confirmed. | Whether the problem is actually the wireless module; the cited documentation does not provide general troubleshooting steps for diagnosing Wi-Fi faults. |
| Replace it with a supported module | The service manual documents a removable card and the manufacturer identifies an acceptable replacement. | Part number, slot, antenna connectors, firmware qualification, and operating-system feature support. |
| Ask a repair shop to inspect or replace it | You cannot confirm compatibility or do not want to handle model-specific disassembly and small antenna leads. | Give the shop the exact model and configuration, and ask it to confirm the proposed module is supported. |
There is no universal success rate, cost, or percentage of laptops with replaceable Wi-Fi cards established by the manufacturer sources cited here. The practical decision rests on the service information for your particular laptop.
