Yes—but Sony’s supported do-it-yourself repair is a complete stick-module replacement, not a teardown of the module’s internal joystick. The DualSense Edge is designed so you can remove a failed module and install a separately sold replacement without tools. Sony does not provide an official procedure for repairing the components inside the module.
Use the exact Edge-compatible part, follow the release-lever sequence, and escalate to PlayStation support if the controller still malfunctions after the swap.
What “repair” means on a DualSense Edge
The phrase “repair the stick module” can describe two different jobs. The first is replacing the entire removable module that contains the stick mechanism. The second is opening that module and repairing or replacing its internal joystick components. Sony documents only the first job.
PlayStation’s official instructions state that if a stick module “doesn’t work properly or stops working,” you can replace it with a new module sold separately. The procedure is intended for the controller owner and does not call for a screwdriver, soldering iron, calibration device, or other equipment. See the complete sequence in Sony’s DualSense Edge stick-module replacement instructions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Sony’s manual and support material do not explain how to disassemble the module housing, replace the joystick sensor, repair a circuit board, or recalibrate an opened module. That means an internal repair may be possible in some technical sense, but it is not an officially documented owner procedure, and the supplied information does not establish that it is safe, economical, or suitable for a beginner.
Which replacement part do you need?
Buy a module identified for the DualSense Edge, not a generic PlayStation 5 controller part. Sony’s UK product page names the official replacement “Stick Module for DualSense Edge Wireless Controller” and gives it model number CFI-ZSM1. The listing explicitly says the part is for the DualSense Edge only.
| Item | Officially established detail |
|---|---|
| Compatible controller | DualSense Edge wireless controller only |
| Model number | CFI-ZSM1 |
| What is in the box | One stick module with a standard cap and a user manual |
| Side compatibility | Left and right modules are interchangeable; the same module can be installed on either side |
| Price shown on the UK listing | £19.99 when the page was checked; price and availability can change by region and date |
| Warranty shown on the UK listing | One year on that regional listing; verify the current terms for your location |
The UK details come from PlayStation Direct’s CFI-ZSM1 listing. They should not be treated as a worldwide price, stock promise, or universal warranty statement. Check the official store serving your country before ordering.
What to check before removing the module
A removable module is the right target only when the fault is associated with one stick assembly. First confirm that the controller itself is powered off: the player indicator should be dark. Disconnect the USB cable before touching the module. If the fault affects buttons, triggers, wireless connection, charging, the touchpad, or the controller shell as well as the stick, a module swap may not address the underlying problem.

The official replacement video, published January 18, 2023, also describes the operation as requiring no tools or equipment: PlayStation’s replacement demonstration.
How to replace the DualSense Edge stick module
Follow this order rather than trying to pull the module out from the top. The release lever and the controller grooves carry the alignment and retention functions.
- Turn the controller off. Confirm that the player indicator is not lit.
- Disconnect USB. Remove the cable from the controller so it is not powered while you work.
- Remove the front cover. Slide the rear RELEASE latch, then lift the front cover away from the controller.
- Raise the module release lever. Lift the lever to unlock the installed module. Do not try to slide the module while the lever is still down.
- Slide out the old module. Pull the module along the controller’s guide path and set it aside without touching its connectors.
- Position the replacement. Place the new module so its shape and contacts line up with the controller grooves.
- Slide it into place. Move the module along the grooves until it clicks. A click indicates that it has reached its seated position; do not force it past resistance.
- Lower the release lever. This locks the module in the controller.
- Refit the front cover. Align the raised parts on the cover with the notches on the controller, then press the cover into place until it clicks.
- Reconnect and test. Only after the cover is secure should you reconnect USB or turn the controller on.
The illustrated sequence and the interchangeable left/right design are documented in PlayStation Support’s step-by-step guide. Sony’s manual provides the same installation order along with handling warnings in the DualSense Edge instruction manual.

Protect the connectors
The electrical contacts are part of the module-to-controller connection. Sony says not to touch the module or controller connectors. Hold the module by its body, keep fingers away from the contact area, and avoid placing it on a surface that can contaminate those contacts.

Control static electricity
Before attaching or removing the module, touch a nearby grounded metal object to discharge static. This is a precaution from Sony’s manual, not a requirement for a special tool or wrist strap.
Keep fingers clear
The release lever and gaps around the module can pinch fingers. Move the lever deliberately and keep fingertips out of the hinge and slot while the module is being inserted or locked.
Secure the cover before power
The front cover is part of the controller’s finished assembly. Do not switch the controller on with the cover loose or partially engaged. Check that its raised sections are aligned with the controller notches and that the cover has clicked into position.

Store the small part safely
A removed module is a small component. Keep it, the replacement, and any packaging away from young children, and do not leave the part where it can be stepped on or contaminated.

How to tell whether the installation succeeded
After the cover is locked, reconnect the controller and check the stick that prompted the replacement. If the controller recognizes the new module and the original symptom is gone, the documented owner replacement is complete. Sony’s instructions do not prescribe a separate calibration procedure for this module exchange, so do not assume that a third-party calibration utility is part of the official process.
If the module does not seat, remove power again and inspect the physical alignment rather than forcing it. The release lever must be raised during removal and insertion, the module must travel in the controller grooves, and the lever must be lowered before the cover is refitted. A cover that will not click is a reason to stop and check alignment; it is not a reason to apply extra pressure.

A replacement module cannot correct every controller problem. If the same stick symptom remains with a correctly seated replacement, or if other controls are also failing, treat the issue as potentially controller-level rather than continuing to open parts that Sony does not document for owner repair.
PlayStation’s controller support page directs owners with continuing stick or button problems, and with broken or missing parts, toward its repair route. Start with the troubleshooting and repair links for your region at PlayStation Controllers Support. The linked US page does not establish eligibility, price, turnaround time, warranty coverage, or availability in every country, so those conditions must be confirmed locally.

When contacting support, describe the original symptom, identify that the controller is a DualSense Edge, and state whether a CFI-ZSM1 replacement was installed. That information helps distinguish a module problem from a fault in the controller body or its electronics without claiming that a particular repair outcome is guaranteed.
DIY replacement versus repair support
| Consideration | Replace the complete module yourself | Use PlayStation repair support |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | A suspected failed or nonworking stick module | A persistent fault after replacement, or a problem involving the controller body, other controls, or missing/broken parts |
| Work involved | Remove the front cover, operate the release lever, slide the module out and in, then refit the cover | Follow the support and regional service process |
| Tools | None for Sony’s documented exchange | Not stated by the support page; service requirements depend on the local route |
| Compatibility | Requires an Edge-only module such as CFI-ZSM1 | Determined by the support channel and region |
| Cost and timing | The UK listing showed £19.99 and a one-year warranty when checked; local price and stock may differ | Regional cost, eligibility, coverage, and turnaround are not established by the available support information |
| Internal joystick repair | Not described by Sony’s owner instructions | Ask the regional service channel whether it accepts the specific fault |
The practical decision is therefore narrow: use the tool-free module swap when the replaceable assembly is the likely cause and you have the correct part; use official support when the symptom survives that test or extends beyond the stick module.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying a part for a different controller
The CFI-ZSM1 listing is explicitly Edge-only. A part described merely as a “PS5 stick” or “DualSense replacement” is not established as compatible by Sony’s documentation. Match the controller name and model number before purchase.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Assuming left and right require different modules
Sony identifies the Edge modules as interchangeable between sides. If you are replacing the left module, the official replacement can be installed there; the same applies to the right side.
Trying to remove the module with the lever down
The lever is the lock. Raise it before sliding the old module out or the new one in, then lower it after the replacement has clicked into the grooves.
Touching contacts or powering on too soon
Connector contamination, static discharge, and an unsecured cover are avoidable risks. Follow the manual’s handling precautions and delay reconnection until the cover is completely latched.
Opening the module because replacement did not help
Sony’s published procedure ends at replacing the complete module. If that does not resolve the symptom, use the support route rather than treating an undocumented internal teardown as the next official step.

Quick Recap
Decision checklist
- You have a DualSense Edge, not another controller model.
- The replacement is identified as Sony CFI-ZSM1 or otherwise explicitly listed for the Edge.
- The controller is off, USB is disconnected, and you have discharged static as instructed.
- You can remove and refit the cover without forcing the release lever or touching connectors.
- You understand that Sony documents complete-module replacement, not internal joystick repair.
- You will contact regional PlayStation support if the correctly installed module does not resolve the problem.
