Yes. Halo Infinite supports Xbox–PC cross-play, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection (MCC) supports Xbox–PC cross-play for multiplayer. MCC also has cross-platform online campaign co-op for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, but that feature was described as experimental when introduced. The games use an Xbox network account to connect friends; subscriptions and save-transfer limits vary by game and platform.

How to play with friends
Halo Infinite
- Sign in with the Xbox account associated with your Gamertag.
- Add your friend through the Xbox network.
- In Halo Infinite, open the Friends or Recent tab and invite them to your Fireteam.
Halo Support describes the Xbox-network friend and Fireteam invitation steps in its multiplayer friends guide. That guide does not list every current privacy or parental-control setting, so those may also affect whether invitations work.
The Master Chief Collection
Each player needs an Xbox network account for online play. Once signed in, you can play MCC multiplayer across Xbox and PC. For cross-platform campaign co-op, the documented games are Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST; do not assume the same support applies to other MCC campaigns.

The requirements differ by title and platform. Halo Infinite Multiplayer is free on PC and Xbox and does not require Game Pass for online play. Campaign is separate paid content or included in some Game Pass memberships; inclusion can change, so check the current listing. MCC online play on console requires an active Game Pass subscription under Halo Support’s requirements. MCC online play through Steam does not require Xbox Live Gold.

Halo Support’s overview of Halo Infinite says it “supports crossplay and cross-progression.” Its platform and purchase information lists Windows and Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, with PC versions available through the Xbox app and Steam. The Halo Infinite overview also says a physical Xbox disc grants access to the full game, including Campaign. The disc is not needed for free Multiplayer.

Do saves and progress transfer between Xbox and PC?
MCC supports broad save-data transfer between Xbox console, the Xbox app for Windows PC, and Steam when you use the same Xbox network profile. Shared data includes mission completion, career stats, leaderboards, rank, and several unlock categories. It does not mean every activity resumes at the same point on every platform.
- Campaign mid-mission checkpoints do not transfer.
- In-progress missions and partially completed playlists have transfer restrictions.
- Some restrictions differ between Steam and the Xbox app or console versions.

What if cross-play matchmaking does not work?
Check that both players have installed the relevant game update and are signed in to their Xbox network accounts. Halo Support’s September 2025 MCC update says it addressed a cross-platform matchmaking issue affecting the Xbox PC and Microsoft Store versions; the update also applied to Xbox consoles and Steam. The cited support pages establish compatibility, account, subscription, and save-transfer details. They do not compare player populations, latency, graphics, or performance between Xbox and PC.
