Yes—Apple Arcade games can be played online or offline once downloaded to a compatible device. You still need an active Apple Arcade subscription, though: downloading a game does not give you permanent ownership. If a game leaves Arcade, Apple says a copy downloaded before its departure remains playable for at least two weeks; after it becomes unavailable, it may show “No Longer Available.”
How to play an Apple Arcade game offline
Download the game while you have an internet connection, then open it to confirm it is installed and starts correctly before relying on it offline. Apple describes Arcade games as playable “across all of your devices — online or offline” in its Join Apple Arcade guidance. Device compatibility, regional availability, and individual game requirements can vary.

- Open the App Store on a supported Apple device and find the Arcade game you want.
- Download it while connected to the internet.
- Launch it once before going offline. This gives the game a chance to complete any initial setup that requires connectivity.
- When offline, open the installed game as usual. Some game features—such as online multiplayer or services that need a connection—may not be available. Check the game’s own requirements if a particular feature matters.
What happens when a game leaves Apple Arcade?
Leaving Arcade is a catalog change affecting one game; it is not the same as canceling your subscription. Apple says a game downloaded before it leaves remains playable for at least two weeks after it leaves. That is a minimum grace period, not a promise of permanent access. Apple’s Apple Arcade game releases and updates guidance says an Arcade game that is no longer playable can display a “No Longer Available” message when launched.
If the developer releases the game separately on the App Store, that edition may differ from the Arcade version. Do not assume that it will have the same content or that your Arcade save will carry over: Apple says continuing with the save depends on whether the developer supports loading it in the separate release. Check that App Store listing and the developer’s instructions.

Why a downloaded game can still stop working
An installed copy is not a permanent license. Apple Support states that people who are not active Apple Arcade subscribers cannot play Arcade games, even if those games are already downloaded. The subscription requirement applies whether you are online or offline.

What happens to game saves if you cancel?
For games that support them, Apple devices can use iCloud and Game Center to sync progress, high scores, and game saves. Apple says you can resubscribe and access progress again, but warns that some saves may no longer be supported if you wait too long before resubscribing. Save syncing and preservation therefore should not be treated as guaranteed for every game or for an unlimited time.

Check the current catalog and game requirements
Apple’s support pages describe Apple Arcade as a catalog of 200+ games, a figure published September 15, 2026; the catalog can change and availability may vary by region. For an individual title, check its App Store listing for device compatibility and whether it is still in Arcade. If it is marked as leaving, download it before it departs if you want to use Apple’s stated post-departure window, and verify that it opens before depending on offline play.
