No—not with a script. X prohibits bulk, aggressive, or indiscriminate automated unfollowing, and its automation rules specifically warn against scripting the X website. If you want to tidy your Following list, review accounts and unfollow them individually instead.
Why a mass-unfollow script is not allowed
X’s Automation rules, updated April 2026, state: “You may not follow or unfollow X accounts in a bulk, aggressive, or indiscriminate manner.” They also warn: “Use non-API-based forms of automation, such as scripting the X website. The use of these techniques may result in the permanent suspension of your account.”
X’s Account behavior rules and best practices similarly say, “Automated proactive following and automated un-following are not allowed.” The rules apply to the behavior, not just to a particular script or tool. X also says you are responsible for actions taken by apps you authorize, so authorizing a third-party service does not shift that responsibility.

How X describes follow churn
X’s About following on X describes “indiscriminate following” as “following and/or unfollowing a large number of unrelated accounts in a short time period, particularly by automated means.” Its Authenticity policy also identifies follow churn and indiscriminate follow/unfollow activity as abusive behavior.

Does X publish a safe bulk-unfollow limit?
No universal safe count is established in X’s published guidance. X’s About X limits page lists a technical limit of 400 follows per day and says account-based following ratios apply after 5,000 follows. Those are following limits, not an allowance or quota for unfollowing. X notes that actions across web, mobile, API, and third-party apps count toward its limits, which may be temporarily adjusted.
Do not treat a numerical limit, a delay between actions, or an account that has not yet been restricted as permission to automate mass unfollowing. The policy prohibits bulk, aggressive, or indiscriminate automated behavior regardless of whether a specific technical threshold is reached.

How to manually unfollow accounts you no longer want to follow
For a selective cleanup, open your Following list and unfollow accounts one at a time. X’s Help with common following issues describes the individual unfollow controls:

- On X.com: Select the Following control beside the account you want to unfollow.
- On iOS or Android: Open your Following list, then tap the following icon beside the account.
Review each account before acting. These are instructions for manual, individual unfollows—not a way to trigger bulk actions through a script or an app.

Scripted bulk action vs. selective manual cleanup
| Approach | Policy status | Enforcement risk | User review |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scripted bulk unfollowing | Prohibited when bulk, aggressive, or indiscriminate; scripting the X website may result in permanent suspension, under X’s Automation rules. | X warns of possible permanent suspension for non-API website scripting. | Actions are automated rather than reviewed account by account. |
| Individual manual unfollowing | Supported by X’s individual unfollow instructions; selective use avoids the prohibited bulk automation described above. | No enforcement outcome is guaranteed, but this is the documented manual route. | You choose each account before unfollowing it. |
