You generally can’t install Google’s Gboard as the built-in keyboard on a Samsung Smart TV. Samsung TVs use Tizen, while Google’s Gboard setup instructions cover Android devices and Android TV. To type more easily in supported Samsung TV fields, use a compatible USB or Bluetooth keyboard. To use Gboard itself, connect a separate Android TV device over HDMI and use its interface.
Why Gboard won’t install on a Samsung TV
“Google Keyboard” usually means Gboard. Google’s installation instructions explain how to set it up on Android phones and tablets, and Google says Android TV comes with an on-screen software keyboard named Gboard. Those instructions do not provide a way to install Gboard in Samsung’s Tizen interface. Google’s Gboard setup guide and Android TV keyboard documentation describe Android platforms, not Samsung Tizen.
Samsung directs users to find and install supported apps through the TV’s Apps interface. Samsung Germany says an app that is missing from Apps cannot be installed manually through another store, including Google Play. That is regional Samsung guidance, so check the support information for your own market and TV model rather than treating the German page as a universal policy. Choose the option that matches what you need

These options are not interchangeable: a physical keyboard does not add Gboard, and an Android TV device does not convert the Samsung TV’s Tizen interface into Android TV.

Connect a USB or Bluetooth keyboard
Samsung documents USB and Bluetooth keyboard support on some TV models, but compatibility and menus vary. Check the full model code in the TV manual before buying. Samsung Australia advises checking the model’s Bluetooth and USB HID specifications because support may not be available on every model. Samsung Australia’s keyboard compatibility guidance
USB keyboard or wireless receiver
- Connect the keyboard or its wireless receiver to an available USB port on the TV.
- Follow any on-screen setup prompt, then try typing in a text field the TV supports.
Bluetooth keyboard
- Put the keyboard into Bluetooth pairing mode.
- On the TV, open the keyboard-management settings and choose the option to add a Bluetooth keyboard.
- Select the keyboard when it appears and follow any pairing prompt.
The path shown in Samsung guidance for newer models is Settings > General > External Device Manager > Keyboard Manager > Add Bluetooth Keyboard. Menu names and routes differ across model years; Samsung’s page includes separate examples for 2014 H, 2015 J, and 2016 K series. Use Gboard through a separate Android TV device
If Gboard itself is the priority, a compatible Android TV device connected to the Samsung TV’s HDMI input is a possible route. Google documents Gboard as Android TV’s on-screen keyboard, and Samsung describes connecting external devices such as media players, game consoles, or compatible TV boxes. This gives you the external device’s Android TV interface on the Samsung display; it does not install Gboard into Samsung apps or menus. Verify that the specific device supports the apps and keyboard behavior you need. The documentation does not establish that every Android TV device supports every use case.

Troubleshoot a Samsung keyboard that does not appear
If the TV’s own on-screen keyboard is missing, check that the remote is working and follow Samsung’s troubleshooting instructions for the model and remote. For relevant Smart Remotes, Samsung US advises resetting or re-pairing the remote as applicable. The correct steps depend on the remote, so use the matching guidance rather than applying one reset sequence to every model. Samsung US remote troubleshooting
