Yes. You can freeze cooked meat-free chicken pot pie leftovers and reheat them later. Freeze the pie promptly in airtight packaging, keep it at 0°F or below, and reheat it until the filling reaches 165°F in several places. You can reheat it from frozen without thawing first, but it will take longer.
How to freeze leftover meat-free chicken pot pie
- Act promptly. Refrigerate or freeze cooked leftovers within two hours, or within one hour if the surrounding temperature is above 90°F. USDA FSIS says refrigerated leftovers generally keep for 3–4 days; freeze sooner for better quality. See USDA FSIS leftover guidance.
- Package it well. For a large pie, divide leftovers into portions if that will help them cool and freeze efficiently. Wrap them well or use airtight, freezer-safe packaging to reduce drying and freezer odors.
- Keep the freezer at 0°F or below. USDA FSIS gives 3–4 months as a quality window for frozen leftovers. Food continuously held frozen remains safe longer, but its flavor and texture can decline.
If the pie is store-bought, check its label for whether it should remain frozen and how to store any opened portions. Product-specific storage and heating directions can vary.
How to reheat it safely
Reheat the pie until the center of the filling reaches 165°F, checking with a food thermometer. USDA FSIS recommends checking leftovers in several places; the USDA FSIS answer on reheating leftovers says to test multiple spots to confirm they reach 165°F (73.8°C). The crust can brown before the filling is hot enough, so appearance alone is not a reliable check.

You do not have to thaw a frozen casserole or combination meal before reheating it. USDA FSIS says frozen leftovers can be reheated in an oven or microwave. As a general estimate, casseroles may take about one and a half times as long to reheat from frozen as they do from thawed; that is not a tested time or temperature setting for a particular pot pie. Follow the package directions for a commercial pie.

Choose the oven or microwave
- Oven: Use the product label’s directions when available. Otherwise, heat until the filling reaches 165°F, checking the center and other spots with a thermometer rather than relying on a fixed time.
- Microwave: Cover the dish and rotate it to help heat more evenly. Let it stand briefly, then check several places for cold spots and confirm they reach 165°F.
The USDA guidance supports both methods for frozen leftovers; it does not provide comparative tests of pot-pie crust texture. Choose according to the package instructions and whether speed or a crisp crust matters more to you.
Thawing and refreezing
If you prefer to thaw the pie before reheating, thaw it in the refrigerator, in cold water while sealed in leak-proof packaging, or in the microwave. Never thaw perishable food on the counter. A pie thawed in the refrigerator may be refrozen. If thawed in cold water, cook it before refreezing; if thawed in the microwave, heat it to 165°F before refreezing.
