Yes—but if “Google Local AppData” means Chrome’s profile folder in your Windows user account, deleting it can permanently erase bookmarks, browsing history, and other profile data. For routine cleanup, use Chrome’s Delete browsing data controls instead. First verify the exact folder: Chrome’s usual Windows user-data location is under %LOCALAPPDATA%GoogleChromeUser Data, but the location can be configured.
What “Google Local AppData” usually refers to
“Google Local AppData” is not a precise folder name. Windows defines %LOCALAPPDATA% as the current user’s AppDataLocal folder. Google documents Chrome’s common user-data location on Windows Vista and later as C:Users<user>AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser Data (Google Chrome Enterprise FAQ). Chrome’s user-data location can be configured, so check the actual path before removing anything.
The User Data directory contains Chrome profile information; it is not the same as Chrome’s application installation directory. A folder with “Google” in its name is not automatically safe to delete: identify the app and the specific directory first.
What happens if you delete the Chrome User Data folder?
Deleting the whole directory can remove local Chrome profile information, including bookmarks and browsing history. Google warns that this information may be permanently lost (Google Chrome Enterprise FAQ). The exact impact depends on which folder you delete and how the account is configured.

Being signed in does not guarantee that every local item can be restored. Google says some information may remain on its servers if it was saved to a Google Account, but does not promise recovery of every local item (Uninstall Google Chrome).
Choose the cleanup method that matches your goal

Safely remove only the data you intend to
- Identify the app and confirm the path. If you mean Chrome, check whether the folder is the actual user-data location; the documented common path is under
%LOCALAPPDATA%GoogleChromeUser Data, but it may have been changed. - For ordinary cleanup, open Chrome’s Delete browsing data controls. Choose a time range and select only the categories you want removed. Review the cookie and site-data effects before confirming; clearing cookies can sign you out and remove preferences.
- Before deleting a profile or the whole User Data directory, preserve what matters. Export or otherwise keep important bookmarks and confirm that any backup or sync you rely on is usable. Do not assume that signing in again will restore every local item.
- If your goal is to remove Chrome, use Google’s Windows uninstall procedure. Follow Uninstall Google Chrome and review the option to delete profile information. That option concerns profile data on the computer; it should not be treated as a rule that uninstalling removes every possible Google folder in Local AppData on every Windows version.
Details that can prevent an unwanted deletion
- Clearing Chrome’s download history removes the list in Chrome, not the downloaded files themselves.
- Passwords and extensions are not among the browsing-data categories described as part of this selective cleanup; manage them separately.
- If you only want to reclaim space, deleting the whole profile is a much broader step than clearing selected browsing data. Chrome’s documented controls let you choose categories and a time range; they do not establish a particular amount of space that cleanup will recover.
