No—not through Belkin’s official Alexa integration. Belkin ended Wemo cloud services on January 31, 2026, and says Alexa integration no longer works for affected products, including the Wemo Insight Smart Plug. Reconnecting Wi-Fi, rediscovering the plug, or relinking an Alexa skill cannot bring back a discontinued cloud service.
Why Alexa control stopped working
The Wemo Insight, model F7C029, depended on Wemo’s cloud service for its official voice-assistant integration. Belkin’s support notice says: “On January 31, 2026, the Wemo app and all cloud-based features—including remote access and voice assistant integrations (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant)—will no longer function for affected products.” The Insight is listed among the affected products. Belkin’s shutdown notice was last updated in January 2026.
Before that cutoff, Belkin described the product as working with Alexa for hands-free voice control. That was the former capability, not a setup option that remains available in 2026. Belkin’s historical Wemo Insight setup instructions identify F7C029 and specify a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi router.
What to check when the plug stops responding
These checks can help distinguish a local power, appliance, or network fault from the ended Alexa integration. They cannot restore Wemo cloud features.

- Check power and the appliance. Confirm the plug is seated in a working outlet and that the appliance operates when connected directly to that outlet. If the Insight cannot switch manually or appears to have no power, the issue may be local hardware or electrical rather than Alexa discovery.
- Check Wi-Fi if diagnosing local behavior. Belkin’s old setup guidance specifies 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Amazon’s smart-home troubleshooting guidance also advises checking the device’s network and router connection; most Wi-Fi smart-home devices use 2.4 GHz. A network check may reveal a separate connectivity problem, but it will not restart Wemo’s cloud service.
- Do not rely on reinstalling the app or relinking the skill. Amazon generally suggests reactivating a manufacturer skill when the manufacturer’s app controls a device but Alexa does not. That generic advice does not apply as a fix here: Belkin says the Wemo app and cloud-dependent Alexa integration ended for affected products.
- Look into warranty remedies if relevant. Belkin says an affected product that was still under warranty on or after the shutdown date may be eligible for a refund. Eligibility is not automatic; check the device, purchase documents, and Belkin’s official support information.
Can you keep using the Insight with Apple Home?
Belkin says devices configured with Apple HomeKit before January 31, 2026 may continue to work locally through Apple Home. However, the Insight is not listed as HomeKit-compatible in Belkin’s affected-product table. Check your exact model and any existing configuration rather than assuming this exception applies. It does not restore Alexa control, and new setup or reconfiguration after the cutoff is unavailable.
What to use instead for Alexa control
If you want the same basic appliance on/off function, consider a Matter smart plug that explicitly supports Alexa. Amazon documents Matter smart plugs and says supported Echo devices can commission and control Matter products locally. That category-level support does not guarantee every plug works with every Echo.

- Check Amazon’s list of Matter-compatible Echo devices against your exact Echo model.
- Confirm the plug is sold in your country, explicitly supports Matter and Alexa, and fits the available outlet space.
- Compare the plug’s electrical rating with the appliance’s requirements. Do not rely on the Insight’s rating as a substitute: Belkin’s historical product bulletin gives 120V/15A/60Hz/1800W for its documented variant, but regional models can differ. Check the rating label on your own device and the replacement plug’s specifications.
Amazon’s instructions for adding a compatible smart plug in the Alexa app cover the general setup flow; Amazon notes that most Wi-Fi devices use 2.4 GHz. Amazon also documented Alexa control for TP-Link Kasa plugs in a 2020 case study, but that older example does not establish that a specific Kasa model currently supports Matter or is available in your region.
