You cannot use a PS5 as a screen for Nintendo Switch games: the PS5’s HDMI port sends video out to a display; it does not accept video from the Switch. To play both consoles on one TV or monitor, connect each console to its own HDMI input and switch the display’s input when needed. A standard or OLED Switch also needs its dock, compatible AC adapter, and HDMI cable for TV mode; Switch Lite does not support TV mode.
Can you connect a Nintendo Switch to a PS5?
No—not to play Switch games through the PS5 or use the PS5 as a monitor. Nintendo’s TV setup sends video from the dock’s HDMI OUT port to a television or monitor. Sony’s PS5 setup likewise connects the console’s HDMI OUT port to a display’s HDMI input. Neither documented setup provides an HDMI video input on the PS5 for a Switch.

What you need to put a standard or OLED Switch on a TV
Nintendo lists these items for TV mode on a standard Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch OLED:

- A Nintendo Switch console
- A Nintendo Switch dock
- A Nintendo Switch AC adapter, model HAC-002
- An HDMI cable
If your original dock and cables are present and working, you may not need to buy anything. A replacement dock is relevant if yours is missing or faulty; an HDMI cable is needed only if you do not already have a suitable one.
How to connect the Switch and PS5 to the same screen
- Connect the Nintendo Switch AC adapter to the dock and to wall power.
- Connect an HDMI cable from the dock’s HDMI OUT port to an HDMI input on the TV or monitor.
- Place the standard or OLED Switch console in its dock. Nintendo notes that the console screen turns off while docked.
- Connect the PS5’s HDMI OUT port to a different HDMI input on the same display.
- Use the display’s input control to select the HDMI input for the console you want to play.
The consoles connect separately to the display; the Switch does not plug into the PS5. If your display has too few HDMI inputs, Nintendo Japan says it has not verified HDMI selector or splitter use and recommends connecting directly to the television. An HDMI selector may be a convenience, but its operation is not guaranteed by that guidance. See Nintendo Japan’s HDMI selector FAQ.

Switch Lite cannot output to a TV
Nintendo states that “Nintendo Switch Lite does not support TV Mode.” A dock or adapter is not a way to get Switch Lite video onto a TV. The dock-and-HDMI instructions above apply to a standard Switch or Switch OLED, not Switch Lite.
When a capture card is relevant
A capture card can be part of a separate setup for capturing or streaming Switch gameplay through a computer. It is not a way to make the PS5 accept Switch video, and it is unnecessary if you simply want to play on a TV or monitor. Capture-card compatibility, latency, and capabilities depend on the specific device; the cited console setup guidance does not establish those details.
